Design Engineering Department
Our Vision is to design the critical infrastructure enabling humanity to connect, create, share, and dream together. We are a team of Design Managers, Project Coordinators, Engineering and Architectural Subject Matter Experts. We leverage our expertise to create site-specific adaptations of the cutting-edge Vantage Data Center prototype that meet our customers’ requirements. Our purpose is to deliver high quality and consistent facilities to our Customers at speed – and have fun while we do. We do this all for our Customers, Construction and Site Operations teams.
The Design Engineering Department goals are:
- Safety – Ensure all safety measures are included in the design and implemented in the data center construction.
- Customer Requirements – Ensure the design includes all external and internal customer requirements and that the design is implemented accurately in the field.
- On-Time Delivery – Ensure that all design materials are produced and/or reviewed in a timely manner to support on-time delivery of projects.
- Budget – Ensure that all design materials allow for maximum flexibility by Construction to meet budget goals and customer requirements.
- Operational Reliability – Ensure the design and implementation of the design meet the required levels of redundancy during failures and allow for continuous operation during preventative maintenance activities.
- Operational Efficiency – Ensure the design and implementation of the design meet the requirements for responsible resource use efficiency by maximizing levels of Power and Water Usage Effectiveness (PUE and WUE) through the most cost effective means.
- Sustainability – Ensure during the design process that all sustainability options are evaluated and those meeting the Vantage Sustainability team’s criteria are accurately implemented.
Position Description
Vantage is looking for a Principal Architect to be part of the Design Engineering team.
In this role, you will be responsible for high-level campus and exterior and interior building design, specification development, submittal review, design document review, oversight of construction and participation in on-site walk-throughs. In this role, the Principal Architect will work alongside the Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineering teams in the coordination and review of design deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and studies for new development, existing facility remediation and special projects. The Principal Architect also aids Sales and Solution Engineering in response to customer inquiries with client specific adaptations of the VDC data center prototype.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Bachelor of Architecture, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college

10+ years of experience in architectural design and construction required, 15 years preferred
-
Data Center and/or mission critical experience is required
-
Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Excel, Word, rendering & modeling software

Working knowledge of building and fire codes ordinances
Duties
-
Own and lead Space Allocation programs for new development projects ensuring that external and internal customer requirements are met.

Lead the conceptual and test fit design exercises with the New Site Development team.

Participate in all aspects of architectural and structural design including conceptual design, basis of design, scope of work, development of construction documents.

Create and/or review project plans and specifications.

Subject matter expert responsible for technical reviews including submittals, RFIs and architectural and engineering studies/analysis.

Interface and manage architectural and structural design and design-build contractors.

Visit new development project sites for field observations and coordination meetings.

Provide oversight and review of project plans, space allocation programs and master planning submittals throughout the complete design process.

Attend project design team meetings and ensured that the product constructed meets architectural standards and specifications.

Work closely with Operations to find a balance between cost-effective solutions & operational sustainability.

Work closely with Marketing to find a balance between cost-effective solutions & high-end office and common areas standard design for the Vantage datacenters.

Develop and/or set minimum requirements for complete material and people paths through the datacenters in normal and emergency situations.

Utilize engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyze structural loads and propose efficient and cost-effective structural grid designs.

Help set standards for architectural, civil and structural quality control efforts and ensure compliance on each project.

Support Sales during tours, RFP response, both standard and bespoke solutions, and customer meetings.

Additional duties as assigned from time to time by management

Travel required is expected to be 10 to 15%.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $150,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
