Job Summary
Introba, a leader in innovative engineering and design services for sustainable living systems, is excited to continue to expand company services within our Climate & Policy Planning organization and is seeking a talented change agent to join our growing team. Introba’s Climate Policy & Planning team works with local governments, states, federal agencies, educational and other public-serving institutions, as well as portfolio holders of various kinds to help set and achieve low-carbon resilience goals in the built environment. We work with ambitious clients throughout the world who need our expertise in charting a path to zero emissions, drawing on a combination of our team’s technical, engagement, and policy development skillsets. Responsibilities & Qualifications
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Business Development / Marketing
    • Represent Introba at meetings with project clients and other project stakeholders as required
    • Meet or exceed specific revenue targets on an annual basis as identified by the Managing Principal within the annual strategic business plan
    • Identify new project opportunities and work with the marketing team to write and deliver proposals
    • Responsible for implementation of strategic business plan as prepared by the Managing Principal
  • People
    • Develop and communicate team performance criteria and ensure regular performance updates
    • Meet regularly with all team members to create alignment on project priorities and results expectations
    • Conduct team semi-annual performance reviews
    • Maintain appropriate staffing levels to support current and incoming client work
    • Recommend learning opportunities
    • Provide input to Human Resources on all team employment issues
    • Utilize leadership skills and motivation techniques to maximize employee productivity and satisfaction

  • Financial
    • Provide workload forecasting as new projects are secured and provide progress analysis regarding prospective unsecured projects
    • Ensure the Deltek Financial system is updated with project plans on a regular basis
    • Recommend distribution of new work based on staff availability as established by the team workload requirements

  • Technical
    • Recommend and implement programs to improve the quality of our service, products and systems to meet clients’ requirements and expectations and to minimize costs and maximize the company's competitive position
    • Instill the concept of quality being the responsibility of every team member
    • Train staff in key competencies to ensure their growth and the successful continuation of project tasks when absent from the office or when staff is on vacation
    • Promote quality issues with all members and ensure that the quality control function is effectively performed
    • Direct the quality assurance and control programs within area of responsibility
    • Keep current on new developments in innovative policy, including by participating in seminars and/or professional associations or committees
    • Represent the company at related association meetings, plus dealing with city, state and federal officials
    • Be conversant with codes of practice and industry standards

The Climate Policy & Planning Principal will be an impactful and valuable subject matter expert, while also serving to lead the development of team members supporting projects across our Climate Change & Policy portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership, technical support, team resourcing and project priority setting essential for the successful completion of a wide range of urban sustainability and planning projects, including but not limited to:
  • Strategic climate change, resilience, and sustainability planning
  • Decarbonization plans and strategies
  • Policy and regulatory development
  • Land use planning, and master planning
  • Financial implications of energy efficiency and clean energy
  • Research and report writing
  • Stakeholder workshop & public process design and implementation

In addition, the Climate Policy & Planning Principal will:
  • Serve as the primary liaison and point of accountability with clients and major projects, offering confidence and leadership for successful project delivery
  • Leads business development and represents our sales/marketing engagements by setting targets and supporting team personnel to achieve them
  • Develops, establishes, and administers team management systems to ensure a well-supported and productive team
  • Prepares workloads and schedules team resources, distributing tasks effectively and consistent with staff skill sets
  • Partners closely with Human Resources to make recommendations for staff hiring, team structure and development, and performance management

The Climate Change & Policy Principal is fully responsible and maintains accountability for their team, which may span across North America in both team staff and project locations. Collaboration with and support for the Canadian-based Climate Policy team and associated projects will also be expected to ensure alignment with resourcing and planning.

Core Competencies
  • Excellent understanding of policies, practices, research, and trends relevant to the sustainable and low-carbon resilient built environment
  • High proficiency in the sources of, and strategies for, reducing energy and emissions at building, portfolio, campus, and/or broader scales
  • Holistic understanding of global climate change issues, as well as current leaders and best practices in net-zero energy/emissions and low-carbon resilient community planning
  • Strong knowledge of low-carbon, resilient building practice, legislation, technologies, funding opportunities, etc.
  • Strong abilities in stakeholder engagement and workshop/event facilitation
  • Effective leadership skills and team management abilities
Skills and Qualifications:
  • BA/BS level degree in Planning, Architecture, Environmental Studies, Resource Management, Engineering or Business Administration, or similar qualifications combined with relevant experience; Masters level degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum 7+ years of industry-specific experience, ideally in the consulting and/or public sectors
  • Excellence in written and oral communications, including superior interpersonal skills with clients and staff
  • Active listening, communication and coaching skills
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and staff
  • Demonstrated leadership and business development capabilities
