Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at Wellesley College is hiring a Postdoctoral Research & Teaching Associate broadly in the area of Biochemistry. This postdoctoral position is a unique and excellent opportunity to maintain growth in research while receiving formal training experience in undergraduate education, both of which will be equally balanced in effort. According to the postdoctoral associate's own research interests, they will choose an established, externally-funded research mentor who will ensure they maintain independent research productivity while also learning how to develop successful research projects at a primarily undergraduate institution. In teaching two courses per year, they will be mentored by a team of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty who have a strong commitment to evidence-based inclusive pedagogical practice. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required, and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated a strong interest in working with undergraduates in the classroom or lab. We are committed to excellence through diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we encourage all qualified individuals to apply. This is a full-time, two year fixed term position with a competitive salary and benefits package. Please include a Cover Letter, CV, and contact information for references in your application. Please address your achievements and goals in both research and teaching in your Cover Letter.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position will be an instructor of record for one or more CHEM courses.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced graduate degree in a biochemistry related field
Skills and Abilities
  • Inclusive teaching in biochemistry (classroom lecture or lab)
  • Research skills in a biochemistry-related field
Other
This position was discussed and approved with the Provost's Office. 40% effort will be teaching chemistry courses worth 0.4 FTE, funded by the Provost's office. The other 60% effort will be essentially as a postdoctoral research associate in either Don Elmore's or Mathew Tantama's lab, to be determined by the candidate and funded by the chosen supervisor's NIH grant. This position represents a creative solution that addresses both the chemistry departments staffing needs in part and the needs of the faculty research programs. We also believe, in talking with current and recent local Ph.D students and postdocs, that this type of position will be more attractive because it provides the candidate with the opportunity for professional growth in both research and teaching, and therefore we believe we will be able to attract a larger pool of diverse and qualified applicants.
All employees hired after August 2, 2021 are required to upload proof of vaccination and booster against COVID‐19, subject to approved medical or religious exemptions or disability accommodations.
