The Mississippi Based RESTORE Act Center of Excellence (MBRACE) is a research grants program and the state of Mississippi’s Center of Excellence under the RESTORE Act Center of Excellence Research Grants Program. MBRACE was designated in 2016 and its mission is to seek sound comprehensive science-and technology-based understanding of the chronic and acute stressors on the dynamic and productive waters and ecosystems of the northern Gulf of Mexico, and to facilitate sustainable use of the Gulf’s important resources. As a grants program, MBRACE funds research to support its mission, and to date, the Center has funded more than $7M in projects to understand oyster reefs and their sustainability and water quality along the Mississippi coast. MBRACE is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work within the program’s Directorate to provide scientific support for the Center of Excellence and lead conceptual model and synthesis activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Serve as the lead researcher on efforts to synthesize and analyze historic and current data related to regional natural resource management issues in Mississippi and the northern Gulf of Mexico and produce peer-reviewed outputs.
  • Engage with researchers, advisors, and natural resource managers to develop a conceptual model for the MBRACE program and produce a peer-reviewed output.
  • Facilitate coordination among funded researchers for development of peer-reviewed outputs.
  • Participate in administrative meetings as a member of the MBRACE Directorate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in the field of biology, ecology, marine science, marine biology, or another relevant field, a demonstrated record of intellectual and academic accomplishments. The successful candidate should be interested in working at the interface of science, management, and policy, and with a variety of stakeholders to support the advancement of research.

  • Self-motivated and independent with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with scientists and natural resource managers representing diverse backgrounds and skillsets
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization skills and detail oriented
  • Able to effectively manage their time
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams and OneDrive, familiar with different types of conference software such as Zoom and Google Meet
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with univariate and multivariate and spatial statistics approaches, a track record of successful research and communication of research results, and knowledge of regional natural resource management issues.
