Job description
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree; Bachelor’s Degree with education background preferred
- Ability to obtain sub permith through Michigan Department of Education
- Experience working with elementary school aged students in a school or similar setting
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others and facilitate groups to reach consensus
- Strong ability to redirect, motivate and engage students that exhibit angry, aggressive, withdrawn or other correctable behaviors while at school
- Proficient use of technology, specifically but not limited, to behavior assistance
- Excellent communication (verbal, written and listening) and interpersonal relations skills with a broad range of audiences
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Experience/training in behavior management, preferred
- Create positive behavior strategies for students while promoting positive reinforcement
- Assist students with academic assignments 1-1 or in small groups, as needed
- Assist students with how to manage their own behaviors while teaching them new and useful skills and replacement behaviors in order to increase their independence
- Model research-based classroom management techniques
- Redirect students so they can return to class where they are expected to engage appropriately
- Monitor students before, during and/or after school including but not limited to hallways, cafeteria and bus transitions
- Maintain ethnic and cultural sensitivity and implement trauma-informed practices consistent with the development stages of all students
- Use technology to collect and monitor effectiveness of data such as interventions, attendance, positive behavior plans, contracts, incident reports, etc.
- Model appropriate intervention techniques in conflict situations
- Collaborate and communicate proactively with all staff and students and contribute to a positive school climate
