What You Will Do

Are you interested in becoming familiar with the current High Energy Density (HED) Physics and Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) facilities and the nature of the work performed there? Join our team in the P-4 Thermonuclear Plasma Physics group and gain the experience needed to enter graduate school to obtain an advanced degree in a field associated with HED physics and ICF research.

Our P-4 team performs world-class research in HED, ICF, and discovery plasma science. We perform cutting-edge experiments at the National Ignition Facility (NIF), the OMEGA laser facility at the University of Rochester, Sandia Z-facility, the Linac Coherent Light Source (SLAC), the Advanced Photon Source (Argonne National Laboratory), Wendelstein-7X, and other national and international facilities.

We have Post-Bachelor openings in one or more of the following research areas: implosion physics, hydrodynamics, mix, burn, magnetized and turbulent HED plasmas, warm dense matter, radiation transport, laser-plasma interactions, and x-ray and nuclear diagnostics.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Experience in designing, analyzing and/or conducting experiments in laboratory.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse and multidisciplinary scientific research teams.
  • Ability to communicate both technically and interpersonally both orally and in writing; examples include, but are not limited to, oral or poster presentations.
  • Experience with data analysis using software tools such as MATLAB, Python, Root, or C++.

Education/Experience:
  • Have obtained a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Eligibility is limited to students that have completed a bachelor's degree within the past three years.
  • Appointments are for up to two years maximum and the student may work casual part-time or full-time.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the physics and issues of Inertial Confinement Fusion
  • Some familiarity with nuclear and/or x-ray diagnostics

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
