Departmental Overview

The Student Academic Services Office is the central administrative unit in the Berkeley School of Education responsible for general program information, admissions, fellowships, registration, student records and related data, course and room scheduling, graduate and undergraduate programs, credential and advanced degree counseling, and certification of public school personnel.

The School enrolls over 400 students, and currently offers approximately 40 options in various advanced degree and credential program combinations. The School has proposed an undergraduate major, (in process) and has an active Undergraduate Minor in Education enrolling approximately 250 undergraduates.

Responsibilities

Working with a high degree of independence and in consultation with the Director of Student Services, Associate Dean/Curriculum Committee and Head Graduate Advisor (HGA) determines courses to be offered each term based upon school requirements for PhD/MA/EdD graduate degrees and undergraduate Education minor, enrollment trends and faculty availability and assumes direct responsibility for scheduling classrooms of all UG and graduate lectures, seminars and discussion sections each term.

Course Support: Oversees textbook and desk copy ordering processes ensuring that faculty orders are submitted, facilitating as needed.
Promotion of course offerings each term by posting descriptions to website and by email. Oversees course and instructor evaluation process, coordinating with evaluation team and instructors. Manages communications between Office of the Registrar and instructors ensuring instructors are apprised of key information throughout the term.
Projects future course planning based upon faculty availability, taking into account sabbaticals, fellowships and grants, internal and external administrative assignments, and courses taught in other departments and/or other universities.
Communicates with the Director of Student Services, Associate Dean/Curriculum Committee and HGA and other departments on coordination of cross-listed courses.
Devises solutions to classroom space and scheduling problems, taking into account the curriculum needs of students, the needs of faculty, and available options.
This includes negotiating with the central Scheduling Office to meet departmental scheduling needs of general assignment classrooms and scheduling all department managed spaces.
Advises Director of Student Services, Associate Dean, Curriculum Committee Chair, and HGA on complex curricular issues and recommends courses of action when new courses, programs are introduced.
Utilizing extensive knowledge of course content, facilitates new course approval and curriculum revisions through interaction with the Coordination of College Policy, Academic Senate, or similar organization.
Provide enrollment support for students, and in particular field Undergraduate enrollment email inquiries.
Works with Student Services team, faculty, cross-listed departments and various campus entities to resolve all student enrollment issues, ensuring maximum enrollment into classes while adhering to department and campus policies. Duties include dropping, swapping, and enrolling students, problem resolution and processing all Concurrent Enrollment applications.
Provides support in the course evaluation process.

Participates in professional training and development opportunities as appropriate. Serve on campus, or department committees as appropriate.

Other duties as assigned, to advance goals of the Student Services team and BSE as a whole.

Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of and/or can quickly learn common University-specific computer application programs, including the SIS scheduling and enrollment system. Thorough knowledge of and/or can quickly learn department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives. Thorough knowledge of and/or can quickly learn department and school/college general and major course and degree requirements. Strong interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from department senior management, faculty, and students. Proven ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends. Proven ability to find solutions to conflicting situations. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits

This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits.

It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $56,500.00 - $88,435.00.
