POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapist Assistant

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Physical Therapy/ Director of Rehabilitation of Services

PRINCIPAL MISSION: Upon order/referral of the physician and as supervised by a licensed physical therapist, carries out the physical therapy program as planned by a physical therapist. Provides clinical supervision to aides, students and volunteers.

1. Adheres to all hospital and UCHC-OPD policies, procedures, rules and regulations, including but not limited to, absenteeism, ETIME, cellular telephone usage, dress code and rules of conduct.

2. Makes Customer Service a priority, treating customers (residents, visitors, and co-workers) in a professional manner exercising courtesy and tact. Effectively communicates with residents and others about UCHC services in their area(s) of expertise or responsibility and ensures that concerns, questions or issues reach the right person(s) at UCHC in a timely fashion.

3. Proficient in the use of computer for basic entry of scheduling and planning information.

4. Demonstrates the standards of performance and behaviors consistent with the DRIVE to Patient-Centered Excellence.

5. Supervise Aides, students and volunteers as indicated at Union Community Health Center.

6. Determines patient’s needs for physical therapy in collaboration with a licensed physical therapist.

7. Follows treatment plans, including long and short term goals, and methods to achieve identified goals. Coordinate treatment plan with patient, family and/or primary caretaker, and Rehab Team.

8. Implement and modify plan under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.

9. Collaborate with members of multidisciplinary team to integrate P.T. treatment with total patient care plan.

10. Documents results of treatment plans, progress and discharge from services in a clear and concise manner and in accordance with established standards.

11. Completes all required documentation for departmental purposes in a timely manner.

12. Assists with the development of appropriate home programs to maintain/enhance the performance of patients in their own environment. Properly documents and follows up with these programs.

13. Maintains daily caseload of ascribed number of patients.

14. Notifies supervising physical therapist of changes in patient’s physical status or response to treatment, and discusses recommendations for equipment necessary to promote patient’s functional independence.

15. Maintains department facilities and equipment according to environmental safety and infection control guidelines as set forth by the UCHC-OPD and Department of Health.

16. Contributes to ongoing program development by providing in-service contribution of resources. Attends all staff in-services and meetings.

17. Performs all other duties as directed by Director / Supervisor(s).

18. Abides by the professional standards set forth by the New York State Board of Professional Services, JCAHO, APTA and other accrediting agencies.

19. Attends continuing education conferences related to profession and departmental needs.

20. Promote a safe, cooperative and professional health care environment to ensure optimum patient care (as per HR Policy 113c).

21. Organizes/manages time and work schedule effectively and efficiently and maintaining departmental productivity standard.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education Required: Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • License(s) Required: New York State license and current registration.
  • Experience/Skills Required:
  • One year experience in out-patient physical therapy.
  • Must have experience treating Orthopedic, Neuro, and Pediatric cases.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
  • Ability to grow and manage a specialty program.
  • High energy and ability to take initiative.
  • Strong desire and self-reliance to implement a shared mission statement of a patient centered physical therapy practice.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Direct patient contact; physically very active; frequent standing and considerable moving about; lifting patient and/or carrying of materials related to treatment procedures; patient transfers; assisted patients with gait training. All staff must adhere to the current NYSDOH and CDC COVID guidelines.

JOB HAZARDS: None if proper safety and infection control procedures are followed.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $35.00 - $37.00 per hour
