The Adel DeSoto Minburn Community School District is seeking a physical education teacher for the 2023-24 school year to join our growing district. This position will be at DeSoto Intermediate School serving 5th and 6th grade students but includes teaching a Health Exploratory for 8th graders and two PE sections at ADM Middle School. Periods 1 and 2 are at the Middle School consisting of Health and PE classes.

DeSoto Intermediate is a progressive fifth and sixth grade building with small class sizes and an energetic, collaborative staff. DeSoto Intermediate educates approximately 350 students and is located directly west of Waukee on the edge of the Des Moines metropolitan area. Desoto Intermediate related arts teachers will be utilizing a four-day cycle that would provide students with 45 minutes a day of either general music, art, PE, or technology. The ADM Middle School also serves approximately 350+ students and is located in Adel and shares the complex with the High School.

Candidates must demonstrate a passion for working with students, staff, and families and humility. The ideal candidate would have experience teaching physical fitness, sports playing, and living a healthy lifestyle as well as experience adapting curriculum to meet the needs of all learners. Applicants must be highly collaborative. The ADM staff uses the Professional Learning Community model, and this team member would be joining a highly collaborative PLC that strives for high levels of student achievement and excellence.

This position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness. This role will be expected to discover and develop the talents of students in physical achievement in addition to developing strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in students in accordance with their ability.

Requirements:

• Valid Teacher License
• Physical Education Endorsement- K-8
• Health Endorsement
