SUMMARY:

Venipuncture experience on adults must include fingersticks as well as venous draws with vacutainers and syringes. Pediatric experience must include venous and fingerstick draws on infants and children. The phlebotomist must be able to work independently of other lab personnel. Therefore, knowledge of proper blood collection procedures and requirements as well as specimen labeling is necessary.

This is an on call per diem position, will travel as needed to various RSBCIHI Clinic's within Riverside San Bernardino County.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities involve collection of adequate and correct blood specimens by venipuncture or microtechnique on adults, children, and infants. Laboratory policies state that a strict protocol be followed through all phases of venipuncture including, patient identification, labeling of tubes, processing of specimens, and correct specimen storage or handling. Must show concern and understanding while promoting the comfort and well being of the patient during blood collection process. The phlebotomist must ensure orderly and timely flow of specimens to the technical areas and must be able to perform testing of waived and moderate complexity in the presence of a Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Efficient processing of blood/serum for shipment to reference laboratories is expected as well as clerical duties as filing of laboratory results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Must have a CA State Phlebotomy License.

Experience:

Minimum one year of blood collection /phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinic setting.

Knowledge of:

Theory and practice in Phlebotomy. General laboratory protocols in a moderate to high complexity laboratory setting.

Skill to:

Perform proper blood collection and specimen processing.

Ability to:

Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs. CPR certification is required within first six months of employment; provided by RSBCIHI.

Physical Demands:

The assignment will be carried out in a medical clinic setting.

There is frequent exposure to contagious diseases. Walking and standing are frequent. The incumbent will be required to assist patients who are frail and handicapped.

INDIAN PREFERENCE:
