GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy and the functional guidance of the Staff Pharmacist, performs duties primarily designed to assure that each patient receives the proper medications in accordance with each doctor's order. Technician will perform some of the basic, non-dispensing functions of the Staff Pharmacist. Departmental paperwork is to be completed, both accurately and in a timely manner. Completes general departmental duties that follow within allowable guidelines. May be involved with care/service to patients ages birth to death.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be licensed by the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy. High School graduate or equivalent required. National Certification as a Pharmacy Tech is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Assists the pharmacist in preparing prescriptions, which includes various material resource management, dispensing, clerical, and billing duties. Revenue management: ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients. Participates in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement activities .

Understands the limitations to performing certain responsibilities of a registered technician in dispensing medications. Transports medications to patient rooms or nursing medication rooms. Retrieves unused medications from patient rooms or nursing areas. Excellent communication skills. Ability to create and foster a cooperative team work environment. Able to readily adapt to institutional roles and schedules.
