Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist II operates all PET/CT, nuclear medicine imaging, and counting equipment in performing patient examinations and tests. This position reports to the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor and the Radiology Manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Operates all PET/CT, nuclear medicine imaging, and counting equipment in performing patient examinations and tests
  • Produces optimal, diagnostic information for the Radiologist to use in diagnosing patient illness
  • Performs all routine PET/CT procedures and nuclear medicine organ imaging procedures, patient injections, function studies, and in-vitro procedures
  • Competently Operates PET/CT scanner, gamma scintillation cameras, dose calibrators, automatic gamma scintillation counter, radiation monitoring devices, computer, programmable calculators, and other specialized instruments in department
  • Prepares radiopharmaceuticals by acceptable sterile techniques following all regulations for handling of radioactive materials
  • Shares responsibility of record keeping for all patients, studies, radiopharmaceutical preparation, and patient prescriptions
  • Trains and precepts students and/or new employees
  • Participates in the technologist’s call schedule
  • Must remain in compliance with all accreditations including but not limited to: American College of Radiology, Indiana State Department of Health and The Joint Commission education, license and certification requirements.

Job Requirements

Associate’s degree in Physical Sciences or Nuclear Medicine Technology and successful completion of an AMA-approved nuclear medicine training program required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • NMTCB certification or ARRT(N) certification AND
  • ARRT(CT) or NMTCB (CT) Certification or eligibility to obtain certification within six (6) months
  • Dual certification in Nuclear Medicine and CT
  • Current CPR BLS certification
  • ISDH licensure required
  • 1+ year of Nuclear Medicine PET/CT imaging experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of radioisotopes, radiopharmaceuticals and imaging procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment operation, anatomy, and physiology as they relate to nuclear medicine
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served; ability to use age-appropriate communication skills
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; ability to assess data and interpret information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs
  • Skills in math and basic statistics required to calculate dosages and conduct research studies
