The Career Exploration & Development Center (CED) is looking to hire Peer Career Advisors to support their efforts to make career exploration & development more equitable and inclusive for all Oberlin students beginning in the 2023 Fall semester. Peer Career Advisors work independently and collaboratively to guide their peers on their career journeys, advise them on career-related topics, organize monthly workshops, raise awareness of the CED on campus, and assist with creating helpful resources for students to access. The Peer Career Advisor reports directly to the Assistant Director for Career Readiness.


Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct career-related one-on-one advising appointments with students on the following topics: resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, and job searching (training will be provided on resume and cover letter review as well as advising on networking, interviewing, and job searching)
  • Organize monthly workshops as a team on career exploration & development topics to encourage the integration of career readiness across campus
  • Assist professional staff with special projects such as: creating and maintaining online resources, designing marketing materials, conducting industry research, and other duties as assigned
  • Raise awareness of the Career Exploration & Development Center across campus by creating posters and social media and presenting to student organizations and academic departments
  • Support the programmatic efforts of the Career Exploration & Development Center
  • Facilitate workshops and events as needed



Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Passionate about diversity, equity, inclusion & accessibility (DEIA) work
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated reliability and responsibility
  • Flexible and positive attitude
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfortable with advising peers and presenting information to groups and individuals
  • Enrolled as a student for the 2023-2024 academic year


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interest and/or experience in any of the following career fields is highly desirable: the education, nonprofits, environment & sustainability, human & social services, and public sector fields
  • Experience designing posters/flyers and other graphic marketing materials
  • Experience with Digication ePortfolio development


Compensation
Compensation:
$12.00/hr
