Heartland River City is now hiring Patient Service Representatives (PSR)!


Heartland River City is part of Heartland Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Heartland operates three clinics located in Lawrence, KS; a vibrant college town with an artistic community and culture like nowhere else in Kansas. Heartland is a rapidly growing community health center dedicated to true Integrated care and is searching for individuals who desire to serve all members of our community regardless of their current social status. Heartland serves a very diverse population that spans from indigent and under-served members in our community to the very affluent. We strive to provide accessible, continuous, compassionate, and excellent care that addresses all needs through primary care, mental and behavioral health, dental services, and much more.


Job purpose

Serves patients and staff within the front desk and outreach by promoting a positive and welcoming experience at Heartland Community Health Center. Is a team-player who provides administrative and scheduling support for clinical staff and a willingness to step in wherever needed. Carries work assignments and scheduled tasks through to completion while continually focusing on Heartlands mission with an emphasis on patient-satisfaction.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries; Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area
  • Assists with Front Desk responsibilities, including: checking patients in for scheduled and walk-in appointments; maintaining patient accounts by obtaining and updating personal and financial information; protecting patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information; optimizing patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments and jockeying the schedule in an efficient manner
  • Answers incoming phone calls and directing inquiries, as needed; verification of insurance through online portals and EHR software; daily confirmation calls; patient outreach via phone, mail, and patient portal
  • Assists Patient Services Supervisor for daily coordination of functions such as encounter entry, billing, collections, payment collection and posting, responding to client inquiries, and days ending procedures
  • Ability to learn and efficiently utilize eCW software
  • Other special projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must have Patient/Customer Care experience in a healthcare environment (physician’s office, dental clinic, or hospital)
  • Customer-service oriented; patient-centered focus that promotes the satisfaction and well-being of those we are called to serve
  • Ability to handle money and reconcile daily deposits, as needed
  • Demonstrates high level of confidentiality
  • Strong verbal communications skills and ability to communicate ideas and concepts successfully
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm when under pressure and ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft programs
  • High energy, positive attitude, ability to work autonomously, flexibility, teamwork, attention to detail, and high degree of initiative

  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job

Working conditions

  • Position is located in a busy clinic
  • The incumbent will be faced with constant interruptions and must meet with others on a regular basis
  • Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Includes exposure to disease or infections

Physical requirements

  • Requires sufficient visual acuity to be able to read and write and operate equipment common to this position
  • Requires sitting, standing, ambulating, and dexterity in hands
  • Required to read, write and speak English
  • Occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds

  • Details
  • Hours M – F from 7:30 am – 7 pm as needed. (Occasional Saturdays as needed)
  • Hours are approximate and may be altered by supervisor(s) as needed
  • Shifts are generally 8 hours in length
  • Full-Time Employees have an expected workweek of 40 hours
  • Part-Time Employees will work hours as scheduled and agreed to by the supervisor.
