Position Summary

This position greets patients upon their arrival. Duties include check-in, check-out, scheduling appointments, ensuring insurance is verified and referrals are obtained, ensuring appropriate registration information is entered correctly and in a timely manner. Assists with maintaining patient flow in a fast paced clinical office.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for greeting, registering and checking in New, Return and Walk-in patients. Will also check-out and schedule appointments.
  • Updates and verifies patient insurance, referrals and demographic information in EPIC as needed.
  • Collects copays, self-pay payments and fees for services as needed.
  • Balances cash drawer daily.
  • Serves as back up for other staff during peak times, vacations and illnesses. Travel to other locations may be required.
  • Maintains familiarity with insurance companies and their requirements.
  • Adheres to HIPAA regulations and all Orthopedic/front desk policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Friendly and polite with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment including fax machine, copier and scanner.
  • Excellent communication skills, positive attitude with strong work ethic.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • Three years of experience in billing systems and third-party claims and/or experience in a medical office setting or related customer service/office experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range

$16.66 - $24.17 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
