POSITION SUMMARY

The Patient Accounts Representative is responsible for accurate and timely submission of claims and denials. Responsible for staying current on billing rules, HIPPA and claim rejection reasons. Assist patients with billing questions and concerns. Prepare payments and documents for electronic processing and storage.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

High school graduate/GED

Related Junior College or vocational school helpful or job-related experience

Proven problem-solving skills, conflict resolution skills in addition to excellent time management skills

Demonstrate ability to work and problem solve in collaborative manner with other members of the department and staff from other departments.

Willingness and adaptability to learn and implement new and/or different processes and procedures.

Ability to independently initiate, research, analyze and offer suggestions and support to department.

Excellent communication and organization skills

Medical terminology, Hospital and or/clinic billing experience preferred but no required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Work directly with insurance companies to resolved claim denials for both clinic and hospital claims in a timely manner

Assist patients with billing questions and concerns

Accurate and timely submission of claims

Stay current on billing rules, claim rejection reasons and HIPPA regulations

Obtain and accurately enter patient demographics and insurance information as needed.

Prepares and submits claims to carriers and intermediaries. Responsible for accurate accounting of all claims.

Reviews outstanding claims by financial class to determine reason(s) for and resolution of problems.

Handling of inquiries from carriers and patients regarding insurance claims or questions regarding hospital bill or statements.

File encounter forms, receipts, and other interdepartmental data.

Responsible for computer support to clinic and hospital billing software and hospital network.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Business Office computer procedures.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance billing requirements.

Assists in interviewing patient, obtaining financial information for coverage, and collecting outstanding amounts.

Monitors patient accounts for credit balances for refunds or allowances.

Promote customer service by demonstrating polite, cooperative, and respectful behavior to both internal and external customers.

Balances cash and prepares daily bank deposit.

Prepares mail remittances and payments for data processing, reviews for accurate account number.
