Job Description

The Estee Lauder Companies Patent Group supports all aspects of company innovation activities around the globe. The Patent Agent will be responsible for prior art searching with respect to product clearance, competitive intelligence, and patentability analyses. This role will also be responsible for managing patent preparation and prosecution activities across key product categories. The successful candidate will also support process improvement initiatives, including sourcing and integrating technologies into Patent Group workflows, managing cross-functional projects, and developing and delivering training content for innovation teams.

  • Position based in Melville, NY, with flexibility
  • Conduct freedom to operate & product clearance searches
  • Develop and execute thoughtful utility patent strategies, supporting highly visible innovation programs
  • Develop and execute design patent strategies
  • Proactively contribute to continuous improvement efforts with respect to invention management, product clearance, cross-functional collaboration, group operations, technology integration, etc.
  • Responsible for preparation, managing preparation, and prosecution of chemical utility patent applications and design patent applications.
  • Manage prosecution of utility and design patent applications globally, including a mix of in-house drafting and managing outside counsel.
  • Conduct patent due diligence for M&A transactions.
  • Independently create IP-related training materials (live & web-based training, practice updates, and related guidelines)
  • Develop and deliver training resources, including blog articles, webinars, live training sessions, etc.
  • Experience supporting litigation and/or administrative challenges preferred
  • Experience with commercial patent search & data analytics tools strongly preferred
  • Experience with data visualization, workflow automation, and/or advanced Microsoft 365 tools preferred


Qualifications
  • Demonstrate highest ethical standards
  • Registered Patent Agent to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
  • Cosmetic and/or OTC industry experience highly desirable
  • Strong foundation in one or more natural sciences (e.g. chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, biomedical engineering, etc.), and working knowledge of mechanical technologies
  • Experience conducting patentability and freedom to operate searches
  • Demonstrated capacity to support a variety of technologies
  • Excellent writing skills
  • 5+ years of patent experience at AM Law 200 firm, Fortune 1000 company, or relevant Public Sector Agency (e.g. USPTO)
  • Demonstrated ability to form strong relationships with business leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to execute in a complex matrixed environment
  • Growth mindset and demonstrable intellectual curiosity
  • Experience with implementing and leveraging technology solutions

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $60,500 to $90,500. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance
and company results.
