HOMEBASE at Western Carolina University is a collaboration between Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina and Western Carolina University. HOMEBASE offers a safe place where students can relax between classes or at the end of the day. It's a place to build community with others or find the support needed to tackle both college and life.

SUMMARY
The purpose of Homebase is to help improve the life trajectory of independent students seeking to better themselves through a college education. Many of these students are first generation students. We work alongside students to help them navigate the life stage transitions from high school to the independent living of adulthood. Our services are strength-based, person- centered, culturally and linguistically responsive and trauma informed. We are searching for an empathetic individual who will work alongside the director to achieve the goals of Homebase and students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 23 years of age.
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited University or accredited Seminary preferred.
  • Valid drivers' license and be able to operate an agency vehicle to transport students.
  • Must have the capability to manage, plan, organize, implement, monitor and maintain agency programs as well as adhere to accreditation standards and N.C. licensing requirements
  • Meets the general qualifications for employment as outlined in the institution's personnel policies
  • Respects the cultural diversity of students, and strives to create a positive relationship
  • Ability to work with others
  • Effective Communicator, problem-solving, time management skills, critical thinking, and adaptability
  • Employee must be informed of the CARE model used in crisis prevention and interventions or willing to complete training upon hiring.
  • Supporting and assisting students and staff with empathy
  • Comfortable utilizing various social media platforms for Homebase by promoting what Homebase has/does in terms of everyday activities and events, thanking donors for their contributions, and other interactions/posting as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with director, volunteers, intern(s), and WCU staff to identify needs of students
  • Provide ongoing student support
  • Identify, recruit and train volunteers and intern(s) to help with building maintenance and event coordination
  • Maintain varied relationships on campus and in the community to build support for students needs
  • Respect individual's autonomy, confidentiality, socio-cultural values, lifestyle choices, and complex family dynamics
  • Assist the service recipients to explore and clarify the reason for accessing Homebase's services
  • Advocate for students
  • Other duties/responsibilities will be assigned by director
Professionalism and Teamwork:
  • Represent BCH and Homebase College Student Ministry and Outreach in a professional manner
  • Keep supervisor(s) informed on current status of total work responsibilities
  • Carry out all assignments and directives of the Director of Homebase College Student Ministry and Outreach according to the established timelines and deadlines set forth
  • Interact appropriately with staff in a team environment, with goals and objectives to yield best results for the institution
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the Director of Homebase College Student Ministry and Outreach.
EQUIPMENT:
Ability to operate standard office machines such as copier, computer, fax, calculator, etc. Ability to work within Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word software programs.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, write and complete necessary documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from callers, resources and the general public.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS:
Regular contact with colleagues in all departments, as well as with outside individuals and groups; should represent Baptist Children's Homes of NC, Inc. in a positive manner. Contacts outside of the agency where proper handling of situations is of utmost importance as the agency's image could be affected.
MENTAL / VISUAL / AUDITORY DEMAND:
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and ability to draw conclusions.
CONFIDENTIAL DATA:
Work with confidential data such as telephone conversations, referrals, care and case records, family information, BCH administrative and program data that if disclosed, would have adverse internal and/or external effect.
