Responsibilities
  • Clinical Excellence
o Provide clinical excellence in patient care during all phases of the transport from initial contact until care is relinquished to appropriate team members of the accepting medical facility. Delivery of this practice is accomplished by acquiring and maintaining a strong knowledge base in emergency and critical care practice.
o Acquire and maintain extensive knowledge of policies, procedures, and protocols related to the Med-Trans critical care program.
o Acquire and maintain the ability to stabilize and manage patients through all phases of transport from a field emergency response or an inter-hospital transport.
  • Transport Crew Member Involvement
o Acquire and maintain knowledge applicable to sections of the Federal Aviation Administration / Department of Transportation regulations.
o Actively participate in Pre and Post Transport Briefings with all team members which may include communication specialists.
o Proficient in use of transport vehicle radios and provide assistance to the pilot and fellow crew members as an active participant in the Crew Resource Management process.
o Active participant in public education programs and public relations functions.
o Maintains a culture or readiness, ensuring restocking of bags and transport vehicle, clean and operational equipment, timely shift checks and briefings, while always demonstrating a safe approach to all environments.
  • Quality, Credentialing and Regulatory Readiness
o Completes all records and documents per Med-Trans policy which includes accurate documentation of the patient condition and care provided according to established standards and guidelines
o Maintains licensure, certifications, immunizations, and educational requirements.
o Actively participates in quality management programs and ensures constant state of regulatory readiness.
  • Initial and continuing education
o Active participant demonstrating competency in all training, which may include advanced skills and procedures approved by Medical Director, protocol testing, case reviews, initial training for new medical equipment and/or procedures, clinical rotations or clinical simulations, and lecture deliveries. Maintains excellence in knowledge surrounding use of equipment and supplies associated with the program.
o Provides assistance in professional growth of new employees serving as a clinical coach or preceptor.
  • Human Resource Management
o A professional image will be displayed while representing Med-Trans which will include a positive customer approach, professional and neat appearance, a cooperative / team oriented working relationships, effective and open communication, and utilization of the proper channels for dialogue.
  • Shared Governance
o Active participant in regular safety, education, quality, and outreach committee activity
o Active participant in quality, educational and patient follow-up activities.
  • Expense Management
o Helps initiate resolution for program goals as outline by leadership.
o Provides input on capital expenditure plans to support medical needs for the program. Displays excellent stewardship regarding OT, medical supplies, operational items, and completion of all transport / billing paperwork in a timely manner.
o Assures proper use, maintenance and repair of medical equipment and medical supplies.
  • Typical Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
o The transport environment can be challenging both physically and mentally. As such the crew member must meet the following requirements:
Must be able to withstand stress/demands of an active position.
Must be able to withstand many hours of: standing, sitting, walking, bending, & lifting.
Must be able to lift and move patients and equipment used.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Must have manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination and adequate vision.
Must have no medical conditions that can be exacerbated by altitude changes.
Must be able to function effectively while exposed to environmental elements.
Must not be affected by motion sickness caused by aircraft operations.
Conditions which differ from the normal work office environment include but are not limited to:
Exposure to blood, bodily fluid and tissues.
Adhere to all OSHA Requirements
Exposure to operating aircraft, ground transport vehicles, loud noises, vibrations, & hot exhaust gases.
A small cabin area to deliver patient care with limited ability to maneuver.
Carrying transport equipment, lifting patients and stretchers.
Performing patient care for extended periods of time in potentially adverse conditions/situations.
Space constraints and a constantly moving environment.
Emergency exits are specific dimensions.
Aircraft are limited to certain weight & balance.
Exposure to hot/cold environments.
  • Probationary Period
o This position is subject to a six month probationary period during which time either Med-Trans or the employee may choose to terminate employment.
  • Non-disclosure Agreement
o The employee agrees to not disclose, discuss, or share any operational, medical, or proprietary information regarding Med-Trans or the employee may choose to terminate employment.

Requirements and Preferences
Licenses, Certifications, Competencies, Skills, Knowledge, experience, and special qualifications:
1 Minimum 3 years recent experience in a busy 911 system and/or critical care setting
2 Minimum 3 years recent flight experience
2 Current driver's license
3 Maintains current licensure or certification in at least one state (and any applicable states)
4 Current American Heart Association (AHA) certifications - BCLS, ACLS, PALS
5 Nationally Registered Paramedic certification within 6 months of hire date
6 Neonatal Resuscitation Provider during orientation
7 Transport Provider Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) within 1 year of hire date
8 Specialty certification (Flight = FP-C) within 6 months of hire
9 PHTLS, ITLS, ATLS or TPATC
10 Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills

Preferences:
1 Instructor certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP)
2 Associates Degree / Bachelor's Degree
3 EVOC or CEVO (If not it will be provided prior to driving a MTC Vehicle)

Working Hours:

Hourly; days, evenings, weekends. 12hr and 24hr shifts.

Allowable or Equivalent External Facing Titles:

Float Flight Paramedic; CCT Paramedic
