The Harry & Rose Samson Jewish Community Center (JCC) seeks a Pantry Coordinator for our Jewish Community Pantry. The Pantry Coordinator is responsible for inventory management, volunteer recruitment, and supporting the Pantry Director in the operations of the food pantry. The Pantry Coordinator is expected to work from the Jewish Community Pantry as needed; remaining hours and location to be determined in partnership with the Director.

After a six month training period in-person, this position can be hybrid - working up to 40% time remotely.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly oversee food pantry site operations
  • Monitor and maintain records of the Pantry’s inventory in partnership with its volunteers
  • Build connections with Amani and Metcalfe Park residents and ensure that the Pantry’s food is culturally appropriate
  • Strengthen relationships with Amani and Metcalfe Park residents to form a resident volunteer coalition
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support Pantry operations
  • Coordinate and attend community programs in the Amani and Metcalfe Park neighborhoods in partnership with the Director
  • Oversee the Pantry’s Facebook group and ensure that the Pantry’s programs are photographed for JCC social media platforms
  • Schedule and pick up donated and purchased food and supplies from local businesses, in partnership with Pantry volunteers
  • Assist in unloading food deliveries and sorting food products
  • Assist with the clean, safe, and efficient operation of the Pantry
  • Drive the JCC Van to pick up food orders, along with personal and household items
  • Actively seek ways to improve the Pantry’s service model to better serve residents and best use available resources
  • Inspect physical condition of the Pantry and its equipment, and prepare work orders for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment; report on and correct problems
  • Perform the MOD (Manager on Duty) duties as assigned on a weekly and annual basis
  • Actively promote and practice the JCC’s Positive Rules of Communication
  • Assume responsibilities as assigned for JCC special events
  • Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as needed

Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements (KSAs)

  • Knowledge and experience with food pantry management and/or transferrable job experience
  • Familiarity with under-served communities
  • Demonstrated skill of effective team building and supervision of volunteers
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse staff and populations
  • Demonstrated ability to operate cargo vans
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software: including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; customer-service orientation with specific strength in diplomacy and discretion strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team

Work Environment

Work mainly is performed in a normal office setting, but frequently in or adjacent to the actual warehouse, which may be dusty and not fully air-conditioned or heated; occasional work around warehouse equipment.

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and moving pallet jacks while performing duties of the job
  • Occasional time spent outdoor
  • Must be able lift items of 30 lbs. consistently with assistance
  • Ability to make repetitive motions (bending, lifting, squatting, pulling, reaching, etc.)
  • The noise level in the environment is moderately loud
  • Ability to work a varied schedule to support the needs of the Jewish Community Pantry, including weekends and some holidays
