The Packaging Engineer position is located in South Brunswick, NJ.

You'll be excited about this opportunity because you will....

  • Develop and maintain general and specific packaging specifications that meet transportation standards for suppliers.
  • Support the development and implementation of package-testing standards in our package testing labs where testing is based on method of transportation and distribution environment (ISTA-3A).
  • Develop transit testing lab processes and review package test reports for compliance, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Keep current with transit testing upgrades and improvements and develop “best in class” protective packaging materials and components.
  • Analyze damage reports on products and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide data analytics to support annual resources, budgeting, and program progress.
  • Deliver training (internally and externally) based on required standards and best in class processes.
  • Support packaging quality issues found during load out or in-house product quality inspections.
  • Keep current with trailer and container loading software including Williams-Sonoma, Inc.’s load out and container loading SOP’s.
  • Oversee team of lab packaging technicians and supplier qualification and management.
  • Capacity planning, staffing, certification, budgeting, and training of the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. transit testing lab.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Packaging Science
  • Minimum 3 years of operational experience in lab management, manufacturing, or engineering environment
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Visio (retrieve, manipulate, analyze, interpret, and present data)
  • Project Management experience
  • Domestic and International Travel up to 25%

We prefer some of these qualities as well….

  • Advanced certifications (Project Management Professional, Six Sigma, ISTA Certified Packaging Professional)
  • At least 5 years Protective Packaging experience, including extensive experience in dealing with furniture packaging, ISTA-3A packaging
  • Quality and Process Management experience
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience
