Job description
Orthopedic technicians work directly with orthopedic doctors in the treatment of bone and joint injuries. Under the direction of the clinician, department supervisor or designee, provide the highest standards of clinical support to the MACC practice. Delivers excellent customer service to patients through participation in a medical care team. Demonstrates a high level of competence with clinical support in accordance with MACC’s policies and procedures.
Description:
  • Under the direct supervision of the clinician, department supervisor or designee, assists in providing clinical care to office patients
  • Manages clinicians’ daily schedule and patient flow to expedite care and maximize clinical time
  • Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms
  • Obtains relevant information and takes vital signs as indicated (i.e. height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation).
  • Inputs pertinent clinical information into the electronic health record timely and with accuracy and performs a complete medication reconciliation
  • Assists clinicians with clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department. May advise patient of preparation required for exam or additional testing and keeps patients informed of visit status, unforeseen delays and other relevant information pertaining to the patient’s visit
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms for patient arrivals. Clean and/or maintain inventory of supplies (medical included) and equipment throughout the practice. Notifies supervisor to order clinical supplies, clinical equipment and pharmaceuticals as appropriate
  • Ensures telephone calls are answered timely and clinicians receive necessary information
  • Assists in resolving patient concerns by acting as an advocate, as appropriate
  • Participates in practice and department meetings, trainings, etc. to promote continuous improvement of quality patient care
  • Takes initiative to learn, understand, and stay current with community resources and the greater healthcare system
  • Maintains patient rights and abides by all confidentiality obligations pursuant to CCHC and HIPAA
  • Provides clerical/office support as necessary (i.e. scheduling appointments, greeting and registering patients, scanning incoming medical records and paperwork, preparing medical records, answering phone calls and taking messages, faxing, etc.)
  • Application of casting to upper and lower extremities
  • Application and fitting of braces for all body parts
  • Instruct patients in caring for their injuries, be able to adjust crutches, walkers and other aids and provide instructions to patients in their use
  • Assist orthopedic surgeons in the operating room
  • Perform all other duties assigned by manager
Qualifications:
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
    • Graduate of an approved Orthopedic Technician Program
    • Work experience with principal responsibilities as an Orthopedic Technician
    • Work under the supervision of physician and obtain Orthopedic Technician certification within 9-months
  • Basic Life Support Certification for Health Care Providers
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management skills
  • Must have strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology, in addition to being experts in the different materials and equipment involved in applying and removing casts, splints and braces
  • Experience with current office technology, proficient with computer office applications (Electronic Medical/Health Records, MS Office, etc.)
  • Orthopedic Certification preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a clinical setting preferred
