Optometrist Duties:

The contractor shall independently provide direct eye care services to patients in a responsible, respectful and caring manner.

A. Professional duties include diagnosis of visual and ocular problems through external and internal physical examination of the eye and adnexa; detection of neuromuscular impairment or anomalies of binocular function, treatment of visual disorders through prescription of corrective lenses and pharmacological means.

B. Treats unusual and/or complex visual and ocular disorders through the application of advanced optometric techniques.

C. Utilizes laboratory and radiology services to evaluate ophthalmic and related systemic conditions.

D. Uses all forms of topical and ophthalmic therapeutic medications, including oral therapeutic medications to manage pathology and trauma.

E. Performs minor surgical procedures including, but not limited to, anterior segment foreign body removal, corneal debridement and suture removal.

F. Provides emergency eye care services on an outpatient basis, including diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic trauma and pathology consistent with hospital clinical privileges.

G. Receives referrals from other health care professionals within the health center for specialty consultation and management of ocular disease and coordinates medical eye care with other physicians as appropriate.

H. Direct optometric technicians to assist in the clinical examination as appropriate.

I. Provide appropriate documentation on rendered patient care utilizing the electronic health record (EHR) system. The contractor is responsible for utilizing the EHR system to obtain, dictate, electronically enter and assure preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all PWS No. PHC-23-01 OD 24 OCT 2022 P ro v id e a r a te th at a l l ows age n c y t o pr o cu r e a s te ad y s upp l y o f c an d id at e s f o r th e F is ca l Ye a r. Clinical data reports shall be completed in a timely manner and shall be maintained in compliance with Joint Commission (JC) standards. It is the responsibility of the contractor to use the training resources provided by CSU to develop competency in utilizing the EHR system.

J. Will consult with Service Unit Optometrists as necessary for guidance on Service Unit treatment, referral protocols and/or complex cases.

K. Assists the Chief of Optometry in other administrative duties as assigned.

L. Communicate with Pinon Health Center Health System Administrator & Chief Medical Officer when appropriate.

Qualification Requirements:

shall have completed an accredited Optometry Residency Program with a minimum of six months experience in the specialty required by the contract, unless otherwise approved by the CCHCF’s Credentials Committee.

Be board-eligible or board-certified with the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.

A current, valid, unrestricted license in any state.

Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License.

A valid and current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate

BLS Certification

A valid state driver’s license

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $119,597.00 per year
