Ophthalmology Assistant

Multi-site Ophthalmology and Optometry practice is expanding. Join a fast-growing company and excellent team as an Ophthalmology Assistant, COA or COT. Top pay for ideal candidates. We will train the right candidate or hire with experience. Starting pay for non-experienced at $16.00 per hour and receive $1.00 per hour raise at 90 days as well as $1.00 raise at 9 months. JOB Title: Ophthalmology Assistant

Gathers important medical information and performs visual screening prior to provider’s visit with patient.

Supervision Received: Reports directly to Clinical Director.

Supervision Exercised: None

Typical Physical Demands: Requires prolonged standing, walking, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires excellent communication skills and a keen understanding of patients with sensory impairment. Must be able to express a caring attitude while performing the tasks required with accuracy and efficiency. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to perform necessary testing and reporting of findings.

Example of Duties:

· Explains to patient what patient should expect from technician’s work up and from the ODs/MD.

· Completes a detailed patient history to include: past medical history (systemic and ocular), family medical history (systemic and ocular) medication history (systemic and ocular) and the chief complaint (the reason for the visit).

· Checks patient's uncorrected (when applicable) and corrected visual acuity for distance (snellen) and near (jaeger).

· Responsible for care, maintenance and stocking of assigned room(s).

· Maintains strictest confidentiality.

· Maintain and stock all exam rooms

· Take dictation and document medicals while physician is examining patient

· Fill out fee slips with proper diagnosis and charges

· Collect and calculate diagnostic data: K readings, refraction, visual fields, IOL Master, Aladdin, OCT, TonoPen, iCare, PAM (Potential Acuity Meter)

· Assist physician in minor office surgery (passing instruments, etc.

· Return and answer patient phone calls

Performance Requirements:

· Working knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the eye.

· Excellent communication skills.

Education/Experience:

· Willingness to complete AAO Home Study Course, if not already obtained

· Willingness to complete JCAHPO approved Ophthalmic Assistant program, if not already completed

· Willingness to obtain Ophthalmic Assistant Certification (COA), if not already obtained

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.50 per hour
