Overview

Based in New Bedford, MA, the Operations Manager oversees the daily Fixed Route and Paratransit operation of the South Eastern Regional Transit Authority including but not limited to; route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers, and coaching employees for optimal performance.

Responsibilities

· Assumes first-line supervision of agency employees. Ensures company policies and procedures are followed.

· Assists the AGM-Operations in the day-to-day operational oversight of location operations including routing/scheduling, FTA and MASSDot compliance, safety and security of buses and facilities.

· Ensures drivers have the daily documentation necessary to complete their routes.

· Coordinates the dispatching, in-service monitoring, and turn-in activities involved in daily transit operations. Acts as back up member of Dispatch or Scheduling Team.

· Completes necessary daily, weekly, and/or month reports for agency

· Respond to accidents or incidences, and communicate with the insurance companies pertaining to the accidents and incidences

· Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.

· Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.

· Works with Finance and HR to develop manpower requirements for dispatchers, operators, and assists with evaluating trip patterns for run structure revisions.

· Tracks and maintains employee attendance system, processes driver and operations staff vacation requests. Maintains orders necessary driver and staff uniforms.

· Monitors and evaluates Operations activities. Includes vehicle on-time statistics, missed runs, revenue/cost data, total work hours, total pay hours, customer complaint data, road call data, and other operations related functions.

· Performs all other duties as assigned and may assist with other areas of the agency based on needs.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:

· High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required.

· BA/BS in transportation or logistics preferred.

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Required:

· At least 5 years' supervisory/management experience in an ADA Paratransit or fixed route operation of 50 vehicles or more.

· Thorough knowledge of basic laws, ordinances and regulations underlying the transit operation.

· Thorough knowledge of the methods of operation of the transit system’s staff and operational departments.

· Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and relevant database programs.

· Good written and oral communication skills.

· Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details.

· Ability to work effectively with labor; may include labor grievances and negotiations.

· Must be willing to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays.

· Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% travel for occasional meetings.

· Bilingual a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $78,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
