BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Department of Marine Resources (DMR) landings program is seeking applicants with strong communication and organizational skills to fill an Office Specialist I Supervisory position in the Biological Monitoring & Assessment Division/Bureau of Marine Science located at the West Boothbay Harbor laboratory.


This is an office supervisory position that involves outreach work with harvesters and supervising data entry staff. This position is responsible for supervising all data entry staff within the Landings Program and assisting office staff with contacting harvesters and explaining reporting requirements to harvesters who have submitted incomplete reports or who have failed to report. This position will assist industry with electronic reporting outreach, including but not limited to answering questions about electronic reporting and walking industry through the electronic reporting process. Other duties include but are not limited to entering and auditing data, helping enforce DMR’s reporting regulations, identifying newly reporting harvesters and instructing them with reporting procedures, rejecting harvester reports if data elements are missing, helping to ensure licenses are issued only when all reports have been received, as well as other office related duties as needed. Work is performed under general supervision and is based out of West Boothbay Harbor.


Strong communication and organizational skills are a must. Knowledge of relational database structure and implementation, along with experience in Microsoft Access is preferred. Applicants must be able to work with limited supervision. This position will work closely with the Licensing Division and Landings Program staff.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks requiring specialized skills, and 2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters.
