ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION:
Title of Position: SUPERVISOR OF HEALTH AND NURSING SERVICES - 11 MONTH POSITION.
Work Year: 2022-2023 School Year.
Effective Date of Employment: Immediately.
Salary: $90,000 to $105,000 Commensurate with experience.
Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority: Reports to the Executive Director of Student Support Services and the Superintendent of Schools (and/or his/her designee).

Statement of Duties:
  • Interviews and verifies qualifications of all permanent and per diem nursing applicants.
  • Hires and orients qualified nursing staff.
  • Assigns, supervises and evaluates nursing staff.
  • Participates in school health wellness committee.
  • Member of the District Crisis Response Team.
  • Provides leadership in the development of program goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates the collection of statistical information to meet reporting requirements of the school system, and state agencies.
  • Collaborates with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to promote a physically and psychologically healthy school environment.
  • Represents the health department at community meetings and coalitions relating to health.
  • Collaborates with the Superintendent of Schools, School Physician, and school health educators to coordinate school health services with school and community programs on a regular basis.
  • Facilitates staff involvement in program development through regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Assists with implementation of ongoing continuing education programs for staff.
  • Encourage staff to develop, pursue and continually evaluate major educational goals and specific objectives.
  • Coordinates the development and spending of the Essential School Health Services Grant and the annual school nurse budget.
  • Actively pursues outside funding sources to meet identified needs.
  • Reviews changing trends in health needs and the outcome of programs to determine need for revision of goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with local schools of nursing to provide student nurses with clinical experience in community health.
  • Provide support to nursing staff in developing and implementing policy and procedures such as but not limited to:
    • Documentation systems.
    • Immunization or physical examinations.
    • Medication administration.
    • Emergency planning and crisis team development.
    • Communicable disease prevention and infection control.
    • Mandatory screening.

  • Responsible for other general duties as indicated by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Baccalaureate or Masters degree in nursing, preferably a Masters degree.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a "School Nurse" by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
  • Recommended within three (3) years, the Supervisor of Health & Nursing Services must seek the DESE administrative licensure.
  • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts (M.G.L. Chapter 71 Section 53).
  • Must have a minimum of two years experience in school nursing or related field.
  • Must have a minimum of one year in a management position in the medical profession.
  • Maintain certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, trainer’s certificate is recommended.
  • Strong computer skills are required; experience in Health Master a plus.
  • Ability to provide leadership in health services and related fields.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to give oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to plan, administer, direct, and coordinate programs and functions of the all the School Nurses program.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and recommendations of matters of major policy, complex administrative and technical problems.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
