NEEDED: NURSING ASSISTANT

STATUS: Full-Time / PRN

LOCATION: 2110 East Center Street, Rochester, MN 55904

HOURS: 12-hour shifts, 7 days per week

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess the necessary skills, abilities, and credentials to perform non- professional nursing assistant services as requested.
  • Will utilize medical equipment proficiently, including, but not limited to, blood pressure machines and oxygen.
  • Specialized Experience: Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as:
  • Providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care.
  • Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures; such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus.
  • Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.
  • Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses in performing patient care activities for psychiatric and long-term medical/surgical inmates. These services include bedside care and assisting inmates with activities of daily living such as safely transfer inmates while using good body mechanics.
  • Ensure safe transport of the inmate in wheelchairs and/or on a gurney.
  • Assist with feeding, providing oral care, recording intake and outputs, as ordered.
  • Will observe drainage and empties, measures, and records outputs.
  • Assists with admissions and discharges, including the delivery of medical records as necessary. Performs designated tasks for isolation inmates and assists with postmortem care.
  • Responsible to report pertinent information in a timely manner to the medical staff that includes, but not limited to, changes in inmate conditions requiring assessment and/or further intervention. Communicates any changes in behaviors, vital signs.
  • Document in the inmate’s health record as indicated.
  • Delivers these services under the guidance of Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Administers nursing cares and any assigned medical treatments with attention to accuracy, safety and comfort.
  • Adheres to all institution policies such as derived from the Patient and Nursing Care Manual and Infection Control Policies.
