Nurse Practitioner I - Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (FT)
Job description
The Nurse Practitioner will primarily support a multi-site, randomized control trial of a CGRP monoclonal antibody for the treatment and prevention of post-traumatic headache in an acute mild traumatic brain injury population of Service members and civilians. Under the supervision of protocol investigators, they will coordinate clinical study participation and compliance, clinical care, data collection, and the administration of study procedures and study treatment, including administering blinded study drugs. They will also act as secondary support on interventional trials including additional treatments for sequelae of military traumatic brain injury. Educates patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments. Conduct physical exams, order tests, and medications, and serves as a patient's primary concussion healthcare provider. May work in inpatient, outpatient, and research situations and performs independently or as part of a treatment team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical and research support to the site Principal Investigator and study staff to include, including screening and Recruitment, Informed consent procedure, Visit scheduling/coordination, Data collection and verification, study monitoring, and regulatory reporting.
- Evaluate patient status and appropriately elevate significant findings to the physician and applicable study team members and site staff, per reporting guidelines. Conduct patient follow-up as required.
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare participants for research and intervention visits.
- Input investigational product (IP) orders, administer study drug, and monitor all aspects of treatment sessions.
- Work with the site pharmacist to ensure proper study drug accountability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues regarding participant comfort.
- Act as a liaison between patients and physicians.
- May be required to draw and obtain other specimens as specified in protocols.
Administrative Duties:
- Ensuring regulatory and source documents for study protocols are maintained, up to date, and compliant with necessary standards.
- Developing, submitting, and presenting scientific communication.
- Developing protocol manuals and data collection instruments.
- Communicating with the sponsor regarding study milestones: enrollment, safety, retention, unexpected events, etc.
- Responding to requests and questions from individuals, institutions, government agencies, funding agencies, and participants in the design of research studies.
Other non-research clinical duties:
- Patient visits for initial office visits in addition to the study.
- Following guidelines and instructions provided by the Chief of the TBI program.
- Providing initial evaluations following standard medical paradigms such as a SOAP note, History, and Physical.
- These duties will not interfere with the primary role of the Research Nurse Practitioner as per the study.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. Attendance and participation in required training for the role.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience Nurse Practitioner.
- Ability to multi-task with a high degree of attention to detail and bring tasks to completion.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of PCs including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
- Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Prior experience in a clinical research environment and knowledge of Neurology, Behavioral Health, and clinical research.
- Knowledge of Military Medicine and concussion preferred.
- Experience with the utilization of electronic military medical records and military medical systems (MHS Genesis) preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Qualifications:
- This position will take place primarily in a clinic or hospital setting.
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience required.
- Nurse Practitioner License.
