The Nurse Navigator is a dynamic position that supports patient in-take and coordinated care in the Phase I program, builds and maintains effective relationships with referring physicians and their clinical teams, and support Phase I program growth and development efforts.


Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Liaise with referring physicians and their staff to educate them on the START phase 1 program.
  • Perform referral in-take for new patients, working directly with patients and referring physicians to ensure well-coordinated, high-quality care and service
  • Identifying process improvement opportunities to leverage technology tools to match patients to timely, personalized care
  • support patients in coordinating their Phase I appointments and on-going care processes
  • Help decrease barriers to care by assessing needs and linking patients with support groups and community resources
  • Reinforce patient education on their disease and treatment options.
  • Presentation of new and current trials to referring physicians and staff via platforms that include but are not limited to Zoom, Powerpoint Presentation and group forums on and off-site. Travel may be needed to surrounding referral offices, arrange STOH meetings, present at Director and/or Physician meetings, etc..
  • Coordinate case conferences and tumor boards to support a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation and tracking for Phase I patients and open studies
  • Attend administrative meetings, weekly Phase I meetings, weekly Protocol Review and Development Committee meetings, Pre-Study Site Visits, and Site Initiation Visits as appropriate
  • Demonstrates active listening, interpersonal and communication skills that result in open lines of information sharing. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidential patient and clinical trial information. Assumes personal accountability for obtaining and accepting individual feedback on key items to include in protocol presentation.

  • Oncology experience preferred
  • Clinical Trial experience required
  • Current Texas Registered Nursing License
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications and clinical documentation systems.
