The Opportunity…

DYS is seeking a Nurse 1 to deliver medical services to youth at the Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility in Massillon, Ohio. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid nursing background and a passion to habilitate youth.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assess & evaluate nursing needs (medical, dental & psychological) of youth; complete nursing assignments as assigned;
  • Perform or assist with nursing management of chronic care clinics; assist with advanced level provider health call & appointments;
  • Make nursing rounds; prepare, administer & monitor prescribed medication & treatments; investigate & document patient-related problem areas or areas of concern; monitor restrained patients on a timely basis per policy & clinical guidelines; triage patients & provide immediate attention to emergencies;
  • Conduct &/or participate in group programming (e.g., medication compliance, sleep hygiene, medication education, disease processes, etc.);
  • Serve as a resource to other health care staff and facility administration on proper course of action in health care matters; provide assistance to other health care staff; assist advanced level providers with health care procedures; educate & counsel patients & families regarding health care maintenance & prevention of disease; participate in health & wellness initiatives;
  • Maintain constant, secure & accurate inventory of all medications, supplies, & equipment to ensure adequate supply;
  • Assist with training & orientation of new health care staff;
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes and activities;
  • Perform other nursing related duties (e.g., administer staff Hepatitis B immunizations and COVID tests, assist with TB skin testing & screening for staff).

Qualifications


Requires current licensure as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code.


Knowledge of professional registered nursing procedures; state & federal regulations, policies & procedures related to nursing; public relations; employee training & development*; inventory control. Skill in operation of medical equipment (e.g., stethoscope, otoscope, blood pressure cuff, EKG machine). Ability to deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables; write meaningful, concise & accurate reports; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; demonstrate physical fitness.
