POSITION SUMMARY:
The Night Custodial Supervisor position will have everyday oversight of Custodial staff and must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The Lead custodian performs custodial and maintenance duties in and around campus facilities; troubleshoots, performs minor repairs, and responds to emergency calls for service. This position implements set-up and take-down for a wide variety of campus and community events; works closely with employees and the public to meet the custodial needs of the area; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations. This position reports to the Physical Plant manager.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Represents Heritage University in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and other customers of our services, learns and uses operating practices of the department and Heritage University.
  • Upholds the Heritage University Mission Statement.
  • Handles confidential information with tact, discretion, and in compliance with FERPA regulations.
  • Serve as next in command for the Physical Plant when the Physical Plant Manager is not available.
  • Cleans and maintains floors, walls, windows, carpets, furniture, and whiteboards.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and fixtures; empty trash containers in accordance with established procedures.
  • Responds to service requests, coordinate resources, and implement the setup and take down of furniture and equipment for a wide variety of campus and community events.
  • Performs various maintenance and custodial duties such as installation and repair of fixtures in restrooms, labs, and classrooms.
  • Operates power equipment and hand tools such as buffer, polisher, vacuum, broom, and mop required for cleaning and custodial maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
  • Uses ladders when required in work assignments.
  • Replaces light bulbs and light switches; replenishes tissue and restroom supplies; and rewires lamps as necessary.
  • Locks and unlocks buildings; secures buildings when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors, and windows; reports any unauthorized occupants.
  • Install items such as door stops and bookshelves; make routine repairs to locks, floors, walls, and ceilings.
  • Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
  • Manually or with self-propelled equipment, remove snow or debris from sidewalks, stairs, driveways, and entryways.
  • Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Must have 3yrs. of custodial experience and building maintenance in a school setting preferred.
  • Safely dispose of hazardous materials; identify stains and use proper chemicals for their removal; operate manual and power equipment; work effectively in and around the public; perform physical labor; understand and carry out oral and written directions; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, or walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to work some overtime and weekends.
