Job description

AIS has an opening for a Network Security Specialist/ISSO located in Catonsville, MD. This position requires an active TS/SCI. In this role, you’ll be responsible for safeguarding AIS networks and information assets, documenting and maintaining security policies and procedures and helping AIS achieve CMMC compliance. You’ll support information system life cycle activities; from rapidly establishing systems for support of classified proposals, to scoping systems for new programs and preparing Risk Management Framework packages.

Please note, U.S. Citizenship is required for this role to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information.

How You’ll Succeed

You’ll succeed by serving as ISSO for classified computers in DoD and Intelligence Community computing environments and carrying out all phases of information systems/network security programs that enable our company to meet contractual requirements for network security through firewalls and intrusion detection systems. You’ll conduct regular audits to ensure system security and that policies and procedures are being implemented as defined in security plans and in compliance with applicable government policies.

You’ll develop, test and operate firewalls, intrusion detection systems, enterprise anti-virus systems and software deployment tools and will safeguard the network against unauthorized infiltration, modification, destruction or disclosure. You’ll participate in the preparation and maintenance of RMF to include security assessment and authorization documentation (e.g., IA SOP, SSP, MSSP, RAR, SCTM, POA&M). You’ll assist with media control and data transfer activities related to secure rooms.

Who You Are

You have expertise in researching, evaluating, testing, communicating and implementing new security software/devices. You’re comfortable providing configuration management and can accurately assess the impact of modifications and vulnerabilities for each system. You can apply system security using STIGs and SCAP tools for compliance and conduct routine investigations of information systems security violations and incidents, reporting as necessary to management. You’re able to respond to queries and requests for computer security information and reports, and you’re willing to participate in an on-call rotation.

You’re excited about collaborating with the Lead Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) to maintain appropriate information assurance security posture for programs. You’re willing to develop a thorough understanding of JSIG and NIST 800-53 controls, and determine which controls are applicable to the application, as well as document implementation in a Security Controls Traceability Matrix. You’re committed to maintaining classified computer systems in an inspection-ready state at all times.

Your Expertise

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cyber Security or a computer related field and 5 years’ experience with intrusion detection systems and firewalls and/or IT network support OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • You have an active TS/SCI
  • You have 2 years of information/network security experience.
  • You have 2 years’ experience in configuring the security controls of various operating systems.
  • You have knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Windows Server, Mac OS and Linux operating systems.
  • You have an understanding of network scanners, monitoring tools, and various security related software.
  • You can obtain and maintain a DoD 8570 certification (Security+) within 12 months of assignment.
  • You demonstrate the required level of maturity and trustworthiness to achieve and maintain the necessary caveats to perform the job role within a SCIF and/or SAPF environment.
  • Prior experience as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) is a plus.

The Impact

AIS is a leading cyber and information security company supporting mission critical operations across the DoD, intelligence community, commerce and beyond. Our roots trace back to the very beginnings of cybersecurity research, when a group of hackers worked around a pool table until they became profitable enough to order office furniture. They hung a pirate flag on the wall to represent their decision to do things differently. Those pioneers started AIS because they not only believed in the potential of the industry, but the necessity to provide the United States with the offensive and defensive capabilities needed to gain the high ground in cyber warfare.

Decades later, the pirate flag waves tall outside of our headquarters, and we continue to develop and envision technologies that protect our nation and our warfighters. The challenge is that there is no end in sight. We’re looking for the best and brightest people to support our mission. When you join our team, no matter your role, you’ll be contributing to the security of our nation and our way of life.

The Culture

You’re not just a number here. Founded in 2001, AIS is a privately-owned company committed to excellence in all facets. We pride ourselves on offering some of the best benefits seen in the industry and ensuring our brilliant team members have exciting, challenging and impactful work and a fun, values-driven environment to collaborate in. We celebrate the unique backgrounds and experiences of our people and encourage new ideas, innovation and the autonomy to create the future and career they want with our support.
