This is an on-site, full-time Network Engineer role with a client based in Trussville, Alabama.

General Summary: The Network Engineer role is responsible for the design, oversight, and maintenance of WAN, MPLS, LAN, firewalls, routers, switches, VPN, and other networking hardware. This position will assist with providing technical assistance to team members with system and network requests.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
• Configure and troubleshoot network hardware and software, including TCP/IP, VLANs, and VPNs
• Monitor network performance and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency and availability
• Ensure network security by implementing and maintaining firewalls, VLAN Security, and WLAN
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve network security issues
• Create and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams and configuration files
• Stay up to date with new network technologies and best practices
• Network support and administration: WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and wireless
• Research and recommend hardware and software systems, both independently and at the request of the Director of IT
• Support, test, and make recommendations for disaster recovery solutions. Execute hardware and software process during a disaster to ensure speedy recovery to production
• Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
• Repair and recover from hardware or software failures
• Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
• Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
• Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities
• Configure / add new services as necessary
• Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment
• Maintain and assure confidentiality of data
• Maintain and assure compliance with all IT policies and procedures
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
• Provide 24x7 support

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in network engineering with a focus on Fortinet products
• Knowledge of Fortinet products, including FortiGate, FortiManager, and FortiAnalyzer
• Experience with network hardware including Brocade and Cisco Networking products
• Experience with firewall policies, VPNs, and security policies
• Proficiency in network protocols, including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and VRF
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with VoIP technologies
• Network administration within both traditional and cloud-based environments
• Experience working in 24x7 operational environments
• Must have strong working knowledge of networking configurations, protocols and related systems
• Experience in large scale LAN/WAN networked infrastructures
• Experience in networking infrastructure (firewalls, routers, switches, etc.)
• Experience in switching VLAN and port trunking
• Must have strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
• Experience documenting solutions, processes, procedures, and recovery plans

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $90,000.00 per year
