Molecular Biology Associate

Gaithersburg, MD

Your Tasks:

This position is primarily responsible for performing tasks related to the development of therapeutic products and in support of non-clinical grade plasmid production and non-GMP production of lentiviral vectors for clients. Duties and level of responsibilities will be based on previous experience and demonstrated ability to provide consistent results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance of plasmid inventory by receiving plasmid material shipments and entering into freezer inventory and monitoring available stocks.
  • As needed, support and perform necessary operations to manufacture non-clinical grade plasmid material needed for non-GMP production of lentiviral vectors for clients.
  • Execute assays to evaluate plasmid material quality and to characterize processes that may include (restriction enzyme digest, nucleic acids electrophoresis, PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA, Sanger sequencing, NGS, Flow Cytometry, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot).
  • Familiarity with SOPs and the ability to follow these established processes and protocols, as needed.
  • Perform cloning and plasmid sequence analysis using molecular biology software and current molecular biology methods.
  • Assist in the development and analysis of new functional activities to meet team objectives
  • Uphold complete and detailed documentation including laboratory notebooks and electronic records.
  • Participate in department and team meetings, presents project status updates.
  • Complete Purchase Order requests and restock supplies as needed to maintain inventory of critical reagents and materials.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or master's degree in life science, molecular biology or virology; Minimum of 2-5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands on experience with analytical and molecular biology methods relevant to DNA and RNA.
  • Understanding of experimental design and molecular biology methodologies.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, thoroughness and accuracy when performing tasks.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and writing skills enabling capability to provide summaries and reports. Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully communicate with multi-disciplinary teams.

Working Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This job is performed in a temperature controlled, handicap accessible facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All persons performing this job will receive appropriate training prior to engaging in work requiring PPE. Frequently, used research/clinical equipment may be handled in this job and strict SOPs and PPE must be worn. Occasionally, this position deals with temperature-controlled materials in which personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required due to extreme temperatures. Employees entering the laboratory must wear appropriate clothing and protective equipment such as lab coats, glasses, and gloves. Generally, this job is performed in a clean laboratory setting and routinely uses airborne particle counter, air sampler and equipment such as biosafety cabinets, incubators, pipettes and computers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to viruses and bacteria.
