Modern Software Architect - Navy Combat System Software Factory

Be a part of the U.S. Navy’s transformational software factory, “The Forge”! Here we are leveraging modern software development practices to transform mission critical capabilities supporting multiple Surface Combatant ship-classes. The Forge is not your typical government development facility, in fact it’s not a government facility at all. It's a modern facility with a commercial vibe located just off the University of Maryland College Park Campus.

This role is more than just coding. We need dedicated developers who will use their passion to deliver using the appropriate tools and techniques, identify and implement system improvements. Using Agile methodologies, modern languages and frameworks, cloud technologies, and microservice-based approaches, you'll work with the development team to build innovative, complex systems. You will analyze the needs and the environment to make sure the solution you’re developing considers the current architecture and operating environment, as well as future functionality and enhancements. As a technical expert, you’ll identify new opportunities to build digital solutions to help the Navy meet their toughest challenges.

Location: University of Maryland College Park Campus. TELEWORK Tues/Thurs & On-site Mon, Wed, Fri

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and guide scalable, testable, and reliable architecture and subsequent development of a product, capability, or feature
• Work with other cross functional engineering teams to validate API, content and architecture decisions
• Share technical concepts with other engineers with ease, allowing the team to develop intuitive software that meets and exceeds the stakeholder needs
• Coordinate with product and project management to provide an understanding of the technical feasibility of new roadmap items

Requirements:

• 4+ years of web development experience
• 2+ years of experience in configuration control, testing, security, automation, containerization, orchestration, and cloud services open-source technologies
• Excellent understanding of design patterns and architectural styles
• Experience with database design and data modeling
• Experience with Java/JavaScript
• DoD Secret clearance – Interim accepted
• Ability to deliver 2-days a week on-site in College Park, MD

Desired Experience:

• Experience contributing to a shared codebase
• Experience executing in an Agile development framework
• Experience with additional languages a plus
• Flexible with tech stack and role based on need

Minimum Clearance Requirement: Secret Clearance
