Job description
The ideal candidate would possess important skills such as the presence of mind, effective communication, the ability to understand and empathize with others, and keen attention to detail. A phlebotomy certification or license is required, as well as working knowledge of techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Arrange daily activities based on the urgency of requests for samples
- Ensure that all patient paperwork is filled out correctly and all necessary information has been captured at the time of the collection
- Identify patients and safeguard their personal information, adhering to HIPAA guidelines
- Follow Laboratory and OSHA standards when handling specimens
- Collect urine/oral specimens from patients
- Reporting any suspected adulteration, substitution, or any concerns to ordering physician
- Determine the proper venipuncture method based on patient age, health, etc.
- Reassure patients and help them relax
- Find veins that are suitable for puncture
- Draw blood using sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment
- Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples
- Label samples correctly and send or deliver them for testing
- Answer patient questions and provide helpful information
- Keep accurate records on specimens and tests
- Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards
- Proven Phlebotomy ability demonstrated
