Through a four-year grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (award number UK1HP46068), the USF College of Nursing is launching the Mo-Bull Nurse Medical Clinic, which will provide primary care to underserved populations in the Tampa region. The mobile health unit will also serve as a clinical training site for the college's nursing students.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Mobile Health Unit Driver is a member of the College of Nursing Mo-Bull Nurse Medical Clinic Team who will be responsible for the safe functioning, navigation and operation of a 38ft mobile unit and thus supports the extension of health services to and from various communities in the Tampa Bay region. The responsibilities included but not limited to performing general maintenance activities, fueling, replenishing portable water, interior and exterior cleaning, and operational assessment. During stationary operation, duties may include administrative tasks (e.g. tracking mileage logs, gas card receipts, planning next site visit, etc.,) including interactions with community members as appropriate. Position will report the the Director of Clinical Practice.

Training for the Mo-Bull Nurse Medical Clinic operations will be provided. CPR/First Aid certification required within 3 months of employment. Position will be subject to pre-employment testing (alcohol/drugs). This position is grant funded.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures safe navigation of the mobile health unit to and from various communities in the Tampa Bay region, determining the best route to each location with minimal delay and/or disruption of traffic flow.

Pre-transit: Performs and confirming with the clinical staff daily on service location and prepares routes. Perform daily vehicle safety checks including the unit is clean and loose items are secure prior to moving the unit. Assists in stocking unit with required supplies for daily operation.

Post-transit: Returns unused supplies to the College of Nursing. Sweeps the unit and removes waste. Securely connects unit to utility lines for overnight recharging, water replenishment, etc. Return the unit's key(s) to Dean's suite.

During stationary operation, duties may include administrative tasks (e.g. tracking mileage logs, gas card receipts, planning next site visit, etc.,) including interactions with community members as appropriate including promoting interest and access to medical care (e.g. giving out flyer's, etc.). Monitor patient flow entering and exiting the unit.

Performs general maintenance activities, including, fueling, interior and exterior cleaning, etc. Promptly reports safety or mechanical issues to supervisor prior to movement of unit. Maintain, check, and report vehicle equipment for malfunction and/or damage. Perform daily vehicle safety checks and captured in tracking log.

Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires completion of the ninth grade and possession of a current and valid Florida driver's license class E in good standing driving record.

Position will be subject to pre-employment alcohol/drug screenings.

PREFERRED:

2-5 years driving a bus or larger vehicle. Previous experience as an emergency responder.
Proficient in English; bilingual Spanish ability to speak and write effectively a plus.
Excellent time management skills, strong communication skills with diverse populations, as well as staff, patients, and community partners. Solid relationship-building and interpersonal skills.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position may be exposed to inclement weather since some of the work is done outdoors. Working conditions may include restricted movement and travel.
