POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing food assistance projects for the low-income community. CAPSBC Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry Program improves access to healthy foods for residents of low-income neighborhoods throughout a designated service area. This position is responsible for the implementation and success of the program, as well as meeting client outcomes and grant objectives. This is a demanding professional position that coordinates, recruits, schedules and supervises the mobile pantry distribution process from start to finish. The coordinator acts as a representative of the food bank actively engaging with our volunteers, clients, and partners to ensure they have a positive experience while maintaining the highest food safety and civil rights standards. The position requires extensive travel throughout San Bernardino County, providing a direct service to low-income clients, and will be subject to outdoor environmental and weather conditions. Ideal candidates have previous leadership experience and enjoy interacting with people of diverse ages and backgrounds and working as part of a team. The position may include modified working hours including some evenings and weekends, driving, transporting, and delivering food to food insecure clients throughout San Bernardino County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate all aspects of the Mobile Pantry Food Program
  • Conduct outreach to organizations for program partnerships and distribution locations
  • Ensure any and all civic requirements are in compliance prior to a mobile pantry food distribution
  • Creates and manages mobile pantry distribution scheduling and distribution locations
  • Coordinates marketing efforts to clients in order to order publicize program services and distribution schedule
  • Trains, orients, and supervises volunteers, and assists Volunteer Coordinator in recruitment and recognition efforts
  • Manages inventory, purchasing, and product distribution for mobile food projects
  • Provides direct client services alongside volunteers including intake and client assistance during food distributions
  • Supervises and schedules Mobile Food Pantry Operator
  • Maximize program effectiveness and client outcomes
  • Ensure all food items to make sure they meet program quality guidelines and maintain program quality and integrity
  • Collect and aggregate data from program participants
  • Timely and accurate submission of required program and grant reports
  • Set-up Mobile Food Pantry for distribution (including sorting produce, stocking shelves, and table placement)
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner agencies, volunteers, clients, and community and civic organizations
  • Represents CAPSBC Food Bank positively to the community
  • Ensure food safety, handling, and sanitation practices are followed in accordance with environmental health standards
  • Address client and community concerns as it relates to food distributions, escalating as needed
  • Lifts and moves heavy objects and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds manually or with the aid of lifting devices
  • Operates material handling equipment including pallet jack and dolly
  • Serve as back up driver for the mobile pantry truck as needed and comply with all traffic signs and laws
  • Conducts other duties as assigned

  • Represent CAPSBC Food Bank with professionalism at all times when interacting with external and internal stakeholders.

  • Work flexible hours and shifts as needed including occasional weekends and evenings
  • Follow oral and written direction.
  • Proficiently operate standard office equipment, including computer hardware and software applications associated with performance of assigned work (i.e., MS Office and Internet Explorer). Salesforce or electronic database experience a plus.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree in business, sociology, social science, social work, education, or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Possess a California driver’s license and a clear driving record
  • Food Handler Certification or ability to complete this certification contingent upon employment
  • Minimum of six (6) months administrative experience
  • Minimum of six (6) months nonprofit, social service, and/or logistics experience
  • Bilingual Spanish highly preferred.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Basic understanding of service delivery and logistics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, highly organized, and strong attention to detail.
  • Effective professional acumen.
  • Ability to develop strategic relationships with stakeholders.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS


Position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, twisting, and bending. Simple grasping and hand manipulation, as well as, reaching above and below shoulder level. Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires working indoors in temperature-controlled environment with some exposure to copies and printer chemicals and/or fumes and outdoors in varied environmental and weather conditions.

  • 1-5 years (3.08 hours per pay period = 10 days)
  • 6-14 years (4.62 hours per pay period = 15 days)
  • 15-over (6.15 hours per pay period = 20 days)
  • Sick leave is earned at a rate of 3.69 hours per pay period for full-time employees.
  • 403b retirement program which CAPSBC contributes 6% of employee’s gross salary once the employee meets the program requirements and employees may voluntarily contribute up to the specified Internal Revenue Service Requirements.

LICENSE AND PERSONAL VEHICLE

Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License, be insurable and have/maintain a good driving record throughout the course of employment. In addition, applicant must have access to a dependable vehicle and maintain state mandated personal automobile insurance coverage throughout the course of employment. Employees receive reimbursement per mile for use of his/her personal vehicle for business purposes (excluding driving from home and to work) based on the approved IRS mileage rate.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants considered for an interview must submit a Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Driving Report (dated within previous 90 calendar days) upon request from the CAPSBC Operations/Human Resources Division. An unacceptable DMV Driving Report will result in no further consideration for the position applied for.

SELECTION PROCESS

Following an administrative review of each application, only the most qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. After the hiring interviews have been completed, a background check (including verification of criminal records, education, employment and social security) will be conducted on the candidate (s) being considered for employment. Once the background checks (s) have been completed and reviewed, a conditional offer of employment will be made to the recommended applicant for hire. The conditional offer is contingent on the applicant passing a pre-employment physical examination only to include urine drug testing and TB screening. An offer of conditional employment will be withdrawn upon failure to pass the physical examination. The recommended applicant shall submit original documentation to establish both work authorization and identity (per the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986). The recommended applicant is encouraged to participate in the agency’s payroll direct deposit program. In those instances where the recommended applicant cannot participate in the direct deposit program, the recommended applicant will have the opportunity to participate in a pay card program.
