Manager Procurement Indirect Marketing

Job Summary:

The Manager, Indirect Procurement, Marketing plays an integral role in leading the corporate sourcing strategy and philosophy for the efficient and effective procurement of Hershey’s marketing services. This position will collaborate with the Marketing, Commercial Brand, Creative Production, Category Management, Customer Strategy/Sales Planning, CIA, Design and SGRM teams to instill a holistic, strategic sourcing perspective and mindset in all external marketing and sales promotion spend areas within Hershey. This role leads the sourcing approach to spend analysis, strategy development and strategy execution, best practices, negotiation, analysis of macro- and micro-economics etc., to deliver incremental value and reduce total system costs. It also includes coaching non-sourcing personnel in the areas of negotiation and supplier ‘rules of engagement’. The main responsibilities for the Manager, Indirect Procurement, Marketing are to provide strategic leadership and sourcing expertise, as well as facilitate contracting and process support to the Creative, Sales and Shopper segment of our Commercial DME (Direct Marketing Expense) spend. Main duties include:

  • Develop a clear, succinct category Procurement Category strategy with supporting tactics to help deliver key business objectives.
  • Build trusted and collaborative relationships with Business Owners to align on business needs, sourcing strategies and overarching procurement support to optimize the supplier’s value to Hershey.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of, and tracking market factors affecting, the pricing and associated pricing models for advertising/creative/content for all media platforms and promotions services and offerings (e.g. sponsorships).
  • Work directly with our advertising / creative / content / design / sales and promotions agencies, consultants and suppliers outlining expectations based on market factors; co-development and assessment of supplier KPIs with key Hershey business partners to ensure accountability for marketing investments.
  • Work with Marketing, Legal and associated consultancies to develop, revise, implement and manage advertising / creative / content / design/ guidelines. Track agency performance against guidelines to ensure compliance.
  • Work with Commercial Brand, Creative Production, Design and Shopper/Sales Teams and Agencies to develop and negotiate a broad range of agreements, including statements of work (SOWs), for agencies, consultants and suppliers.
  • Understand businesses budgets and goals in order to better utilize agencies and spend associated with said agencies.
  • As required, work with Business Owners to plan and lead Sourcing events (RFx).

Major Duties/Role Responsibilities:

Identify and Develop Sourcing Opportunities and Specific Sourcing Plans Lead the development of a category sourcing strategy and manage project- and category-specific sourcing plans to proactively support business needs.

Collaborate with key Business Owners (Marketing, Commercial Brand, Creative Production, Category Management, Customer Strategy/Sales Planning, CIA, Design and SGRM teams) and their agencies to identify areas where sourcing value can be added and opportunities to aggregate needs and deliver support more efficiently.

Work closely with Business Owners and agencies to negotiate a wide range of agreements, including Statements of Work.

Manage relationships with strategic advertising/creative/content/design, sales and shopper marketing promotions partners. Identify opportunities to improve the end-to-end sourcing process, gain alignment on solutions, and drive implementation of the same.

Access and utilize all relevant intelligence gathering tools and best practices to develop the category strategy and stay current on market factors impacting future models. Monitor the competitive landscape to keep abreast of emerging trends, supply/demand, industry changes and their overall impact to current and anticipated advertising and promotions spend. Advise marketing and sales Business Owners teams of factors impacting current and/or future strategies and assist to implement Best Demonstrated Practices (BDPs).

Establish processes to regularly monitor agency compliance to Hershey guidelines (e.g. production, influencer, etc.). Work directly with affected agencies to identify performance standards to track through dashboard reporting. Work with marketing and sales Business Owners to address deficiencies.

Lead sourcing of potential new agency relationships through formalized RFx processes, as required. Collaborate with Commercial Brand and and Sales teams to establish the go-to-market strategy and lead the negotiations setting the terms and conditions for their final agreement. When RFP’s are in progress, the time allocation for this duty will be much higher than the indicated percentage


Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:

  • Strong understanding of Hershey business unit strategies, stakeholders, objectives and ways of working.
  • Proven sourcing skills and expertise; Marketing Procurement experience an asset, Indirect Sourcing category experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of creative, sales and promotional agency operations, and best practices.
  • Preferably, experience working with advertising/creative/content, and Sales / shopper / experiential / promotions agencies.
  • Strong contract negotiation and contract drafting/review skills: knowledge of best demonstrated practices in structuring agency contracts, awareness of client-agency and media/advertising legal environments.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead teams in holistic business-based situation analysis, solution generation and action steps.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence all levels of management, with exceptional communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work effectively and productively in a team environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal departments, seek common ground and ensure alignment on common goals.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in business, Finance, Supply Chain or related area required, MBA a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years progressive business experience
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in procurement or a sourcing environment
  • Negotiations
  • Client-side marketing, sales, sourcing or equivalent

Advertising / media / design / experiential / sales / shopper marketing / promotions experience or related agency experience.
