This two-year position, with the possibility of becoming permanent, directs the brand standard for BYU Physical Facilities (PF) and the conceptual development, content and design for its websites, digital signage system, and printed materials. Position manages, creates, executes, and distributes division content, banners, newsletters, posters, brochures, etc. It is responsible for maintaining PF’s historical data and creating the 10-year BYU/PF history book. This position is expected to maintain a professional and efficient, as well as friendly and comfortable, atmosphere within the office setting and when working with other areas, vendors, and campus departments.

Essential Functions

  • Division Creative Manager (50%)
    • Direct development and execution of creative strategies to raise awareness and promote campus and community knowledge of PF
    • Direct, develop, and implement style guidelines, content standards and revision procedures for PF websites and distributed material
    • Ensure BYU brand, PF brand, and copyright compliance with all PF Division distributed material (e.g., newsletters, building banners, recycling information, department brochures, etc.)
    • Oversee and develop the creative direction for division in collaboration with the AAVP, six department directors, and 50 area/shop managers
    • Direct and edit written copy to promote PF’s mission, vision, and values
    • Manage production and distribution of the monthly division newsletter and the quarterly PF Times newsletter, targeting over 1300 individuals in campus leadership, BYU employees and PF retirees
    • Design and create division layouts, graphics and/or video using Adobe Creative Suite
    • Direct and oversee all production and mailing completed by outside vendors and on-campus entities
    • Collaborate with University Communications for campus-wide, public-facing media campaigns
    • Ensures excellent creative employees are hired, trained, mentored, and developed
  • Division Web Developer & UX/UI Designer (30%)
    • Develop an optimal and easy-to-use user interface and interactive experience for all website visitors using UX/UI best practices
    • Direct, develop and maintain creative copy and designs for all division websites (e.g., PF, Floor Plans) that promote BYU and PF’s image, identity, and brand
    • Develop, create, and maintain PF web pages, and customer-facing processes (e.g., work orders, service requests, vehicle rental requests)
    • Establish and oversee protection protocols for all online sensitive content by creating and assigning appropriate BYU CAS authorization levels in GRO and Brightspot CMS (e.g., BYU campus building floor plans, construction specifications)
    • Direct and create visually pleasing responsive pages with dynamic layouts, interactive submission forms, and clear navigational schemes
    • Establish and maintain meta descriptions, SEO and ADA compliance of all PF web and app pages
    • Troubleshoot and resolve all PF web requests, edits, and errors
    • Manage and maintain a positive relationship with BYU Websites team to request and implement improvements to Brightspot CMS
  • Digital Signage Developer (15%)
    • Develop and direct division’s Digital Signage utilizing UX/UI design, HTML, and CSS
    • Test, troubleshoot, and resolve all digital signage requests, edits, and errors
    • Maintain a positive relationship with PF Information Support team to ensure broadcasting hardware is working in all PF locations
  • Division Historian & Communications (5%)
    • Direct and execute photography and video of campus construction projects, infrastructure improvements, PF events, retreats, and Service with Excellence, and SAERA awards using a professional SLR digital camera and photography equipment
    • Direct and create the PF 10-year history book, including gathering content, writing, and formatting the book and submitting to print
    • Work closely with PF department contractors, architects, and engineers to photograph and document construction projects on campus and at university-affiliated sites
    • Conduct interviews and collect detailed information on PF individuals and projects to maintain accurate historical records
    • Create and maintain a secure, well-organized database of digital and physical files and images
  • Other duties as assigned
    • Cover for AAVP-PF Executive Assistant as needed
    • Serve on various committees: AAC, Awards, etc.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, Marketing Communications, or related field
    • Two (2) years of experience; OR
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, Marketing Communications, or related field
    • 5 years experience
  • Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
    • Required:
      • Design skills related to color schemes, typography, information architecture, layout, responsive design, etc. for websites, and printed materials
      • Proficiency with UX/UI design
      • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and content management systems (Brightspot/CMS)
      • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite tools (i.e., Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro) or similar applications
      • Demonstrated ability to create and edit engaging content and execute creative strategies
      • Advanced photography skills and experience with professional DSLR camera
      • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to communicate effectively with other teams
      • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
      • Must be able to communicate problems and limitations to AAVP-PF and department leadership in a concise and diplomatic manner
      • Serve on university committees, as assigned
    • Preferred:
      • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite tools (i.e. Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premier Pro) or similar applications
      • Experience with Brightspot CMS
      • Project Management skills
      • Advanced technical writing and editing skill
