The Mental Health Therapist/Care Coordinator position is responsible for providing a wide array of culturally sensitive, recovery oriented, trauma sensitive, direct clinical services including assessment, counseling, supportive contacts, and referrals serving individuals who are living with HIV, struggling mental health concerns and referred to the program from UW Health. The position provides direct clinical services to adults including individual and group therapy. Eligible candidates could have a minimum of a master’s degree in counseling, social work or marriage and family therapy and an in-training license (LPC-IT, APSW, LMFT-IT) in the State of Wisconsin. Fully licensed candidates (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) would be eligible to operate under a mixed commercial caseload as a program manager. This is a full-time position that may require minimal early evening hours in order to best accommodate consumer scheduling needs. The ideal clinician will thrive in a fast-paced, team oriented, and recovery focused environment. This position reports directly to the assigned supervisor with overall program supervision provided by Director of Program Services. Minimum annual service hours are 1352 at 1.0 FTE.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provision of Clinical Services (high responsibility, 65% effort)
    • Performs accurate assessments to evaluate and diagnose mental health and co-occurring issues in a culturally sensitive, recovery oriented, trauma sensitive manner by providing assessments within the context of the consumer’s perspectives and beliefs.
    • Provides a range of clinical services including level of care assessment, service coordination, therapy/counseling, support, and referrals in a context that is supportive of the consumer’s culture, values and perspectives.
    • Completes accurate clinical records including intakes, assessments, treatment plans and updates, progress notes, discharge summaries and other information in a timely manner.
    • Works collaboratively with other community agencies to develop and maintain a continuum of care and maintain efficient use of community services.
    • Utilizes collaborative documentation for all clinical records.
    • Provides consultation and support related to areas of specialization.
    • Attends Team Meetings and presents consumer cultural and clinical information.
    • Maintains minimum direct and case management service hour expectations.
    • Works collaboratively with team members and takes a leadership role in service planning.
    • May require evening hours depending on program and consumer’s needs.
    • Schedule will be maintained by PSS staff.
  • UWCC Program and JMHC Participation (high responsibility, 35% effort)
    • Attends staff meetings, in-services and other program activities.
    • Participates in JMHC committees, trainings and activities as desired and/or directed.
    • Provides consultation to other JMHC programs as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience

  • 1 year of experience in related behavioral health field (graduate school internship may count).
  • Commitment to work toward improving cultural sensitivity as demonstrated by valuing diversity, recognizing personal limitations, and having the desire to improve.
  • Strong commitment to principles of recovery and to facilitating consumer participation in treatment/service planning and provision.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the use of evidence-based practices for treatment.
  • Experience in community-based mental health and substance abuse assessment, service coordination, treatment planning, therapy/counseling, and crisis resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing).
  • Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team with a positive and creative attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and remain organized and efficient.
  • Superior ethics and interpersonal boundaries as evidenced by experience in community based work with related professional references.

Education/Licensure

  • Master’s degree in a related behavioral health field
  • Licensure as an in-training clinician in the State of Wisconsin
    • LPC-IT
    • APSW
    • LMFT-IT

Desired Experience

  • Licensed in the State of Wisconsin as a:
    • Professional Counselor (LPC)
    • Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
    • Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) .
  • Bilingual (must be able to pass Alta Language Proficiency Test)
    • Spanish
    • Hmong
    • Khmer
    • American Sign Language (ASL)
