Title: Mental Health Provider

Reports To: Executive Director

Nature of Work: The Mental Health Provider (MHP) is responsible for providing trauma assessments, therapy services, crisis intervention, information, and support to child victims of abuse and their non-offending family members. All CAC MHP’s will use trauma focused evidence-based therapy methods.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in a related mental health field. MHPs must be licensed/certified or supervised by a licensed mental health professional.
  • Training in TF-CBT. CPP Training is highly suggested but not required before employment. If the MHP is not trained in TF-CBT, they will be afforded the opportunity to complete the training process.
  • Participation in ongoing supervision/consultation, peer review and advanced training opportunities as possible.
  • A minimum of two years direct work or equivalent related job experience required in working with child victims of abuse.
  • Skilled in crisis intervention with children and parents.
  • Working knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse, the ability to establish rapport with children, clients and other professionals, an objective attitude, patient demeanor, and strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • No criminal convictions or child maltreatment findings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Providing trauma assessments to all child victims that meet the criteria set forth in the CAC Mental Health Policies/NCA Standards.
  • Carrying an ongoing caseload of clients on site based upon the CAC Mental Health Policies/NCA Standards.
  • Crisis intervention and evaluation as needed for victims and families.
  • Attendance at MDT meetings as the CAC mental health representative.
  • Ensure that victims and families are referred to appropriate mental health agencies to obtain additional services as needed.
  • Establishing and maintaining case management files on each case in the system. This includes ensuring the completion of appropriate forms.
  • Coordinating with appropriate agencies regarding child maltreatment cases during the investigation.

INITIAL TRAINING AND ONGOING EDUCATION:

  • Mental Health Providers must complete 40 contact hours required for their degree, complete the online trauma training for TF-CBT, as well as participate in continuing education in trauma.
  • Mental Health Providers must complete a minimum of eight continuing education hours in the field of child abuse education every two years.
