Position Focus:

In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, a 24/7 Acute Care Department, a 17-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.

The Medical Assistant works as a member of the Yale Health Specialty care team by providing seamless, coordinated and compassionate care at each patient encounter. Responsibilities include: Provide care to patients as directed by nursing and clinician staff. Assist the clinician with the daily operations of the clinic, including support of minor surgical set up and procedures. Maintain a comfortable, orderly, safe and clean environment for patient care. Prepare exam rooms. Select and organize medical supplies. Maintain medical equipment in good working order. Prepare patients for examinations. Measure and record vital signs. Collect pertinent data relevant to the patient visit. Provide routine information related to medical treatments and procedures. Prepare for next day/same day clinic by doing chart prep reviews, EMR for tests due and anticipates what patient/clinician may need. Access the EMR (electronic medical record) as appropriate. Respond to tasks and messages in a timely manner. Record and report patient information. Order and maintain inventory of medical supplies for the department. Restock rooms. Maintain dirty and clean utility areas. Performs ECGS, EKGs, bladder scanner techniques and CLIA waived testing as needed. Perform clerical functions and provide assistance to clinicians and nursing staff in support of clinical activities. Provide support to the front desk staff as needed. Greet patients, check demographic data, answer phones and route calls as appropriate.

Required Education and Experience

Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with emphasis on customer service experience. Demonstrated ability to perform in stressful situations and works well in teams.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability providing support as a medical assistant in an ambulatory care setting.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated ability to perform in stressful situations and works well in teams.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Experience in performing ECGS and CLIA waived testing. EMR proficiency, data entry skills associated with the use of computers in a clinical scheduling/electronic medical record.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Excellent attendance, punctuality and reliability as attested to by references.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Experience with set up and assisting with minor surgical procedures; Epic experience and current BCLS certification.

Required Licenses or Certifications

Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Registry of Medical Assistants (or ability to get certification/registration within 90 days of employment).
