The Mechanical Pipe Stress Engineer in the Structural Mechanics group of the Design Services organization implements solutions to engineering challenges to meet standards set by the Department of Energy (DOE) for the Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) project. The Mechanical Pipe Stress Engineer is responsible for reviewing Piping Isometrics, P&ID development, equipment configuration and piping specifications, stress analysis, material requisition preparation, development of engineering construction drawings, and coordination with other disciplines. They will provide support to fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and client specifications. Other responsibilities for advanced analyses to include:
- Pipe Stress and expansion analysis for piping systems utilizing AutoPipe
- Allowable load calculations on Tank and Pump nozzles using WRC and API codes
- Stress Analysis of load attachments to vessels and tanks using FEA method (ANSYS, Abaqus, STAAD)
- Pressure and Non-Pressure part design, modification, and evaluation per ASME B31.1 & B31.3 and Section VIII, API codes
- Stress Analysis, fracture mechanics, fatigue, and creep assessment
- Thermal performance, Hydraulic Heat Transfer, and Fluid flow analysis
- Material selection per ASME codes
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university with relevant professional experience

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of advanced engineering principles and practices to develop appropriate outputs.
- Working knowledge of the conventional technology in the specialized field, computer applications, Industry Codes and Standards, design control, and Department of Energy requirements.
- Working knowledge of STAAD, ANSYS, ABAQUS, SASSI, DYNA3D, AUTOPIPE, ANSYS, PVElite, COMPRESS, or similar computer codes.
- Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards including IBC, AISC (ASD, LRFD, & N690), ASCE, ACI (318 & 349), ASME VIII, ASME III, API-579, ASME B31, NFPA-13, SMACNA, and ASME AG-1.
- Experience with piping design and modeling using PDMS
- Working knowledge of seismic equipment qualification
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a changing environment of multiple demands and shifting directions and priorities
- Good organizational and communication skills. Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, both verbally and in writing.
