POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Mechanical Designer

POSTION SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Mechanical Designer is to plan, organize, develop drawings and quotations primarily for the creation of solutions under the direction of the Engineering Manager and through collaborative relationships with all members of the company, the customer, and vendors to ensure that the highest degree of quality delivery of service is maintained at all times.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP AND SCOPE

  • Directly reports to Engineering Manager.
  • This position is non-supervisory.
  • Work and communicate professionally with all staff, customers, and vendors.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Confer with project manager, production, purchasing and sales to discuss existing or potential engineering projects.
  • Confer with management, production, sales and purchasing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing specifications.
  • Prepare and communicate specifications for purchase of materials and equipment/tooling when necessary.
  • Examine, prepare and verify technical drawings and specifications of electro-mechanical Solutions, to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements. Design and draft detailed multi-view drawings of assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components.
  • Analyze engineering sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors.
  • Ensure designs meet ISO standards when required.
  • Design and plan the layout of mechanical and some electrical assemblies to customer requirements; communicating details with Manufacturing.
  • Responsible for the preparation of estimates, cost reports, forecasts, schedules, account codes, budgets, and change orders.
  • Updates estimates, schedules, reports, and documents based on revisions and changes to the project.
  • Conducts a quality check of all documents and reports, verifying accuracy of data, information, and calculations.
  • Electro mechanical design – specify sensors, motors, servo Solutions, mechanics etc. for final design
  • Assist with Value Add design as needed (80/20 product design, pneumatic layouts, electrical layouts, etc)

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in climate-controlled settings, but may be exposed to wet and/or humid hot and/or cold conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, ear protection is provided when needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 1 – 2 years of work experience with CAD software and mechanical design.
  • Pneumatic and electrical circuitry experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interprets technical procedures, trade journals, and product information in English.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the vendors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

REASONING ABILITY

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software
  • Computer literacy is strongly preferred
  • Strong customer focus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; talk or hear. The employee is required to use hands to touch, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
