As a Materials Supervisor, you will be empowered to bring your abilities and expertise to develop key programs, influence and develop a team, and collaborate with other peers to execute best practices in the Materials department. The Materials Supervisor leads the activities of all production material handlers engaged in the movement of raw, WIP, or finished material and controlling material flow for the plant. This ideal candidate for this position will have a high level of organization, excellent communication, and coordination skills in a safe and effective manner to drive continuous improvement and ensure processes are implemented and followed.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and assign work and direction to all production material handling / material clerk personnel.
  • Direct and organize daily picking requirements based on workload and manpower availability.
  • Issue work orders, planning, and scheduling production and shipping activities.
  • Responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain day to day communication with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, system data integrity, and ordering parameters for individual materials.
  • Utilizes PFEP data to maintain ideal inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries, while maximizing turns, and minimizing carrying costs.
  • Maintains ERP master data to support materials functions.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to engage teams in other departments and divisions of the organization.
  • Monitors and evaluates employee productivity and behavior and providing constructive feedback and coaching. Owns progressive discipline for assigned employees. Manages or routes employee relations issues appropriately and timely.
  • Maintains timekeeping and personnel records including but not limited to, vacation and time off requests and progressive discipline.
  • Partner with Operations Managers, Supervisors, and other Materials department team members to establish production schedules, combat production issues, and offer suggestions for changes in production working conditions.
  • Initiate, suggest, and implement plans to motivate, empower, and develop workers to achieve work goals in a team environment while complying with all quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions.
  • Ensures that all employees are following proper safety protocols including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Required Skills:
  • Advanced computer skills including the use of Office Suite and especially Excel
  • Advanced previous use and understanding of MRP systems
  • Ability to operate with a sense of urgency and distribute time sensitive and accurate data
  • Demonstrated understanding of lean manufacturing practices
  • Ability to adapt and suggest system & technology changes with current systems
  • Ability to blend multiple sources of data to formulate opinions and recommendations, possesses analytical mindset
  • Comfortable coaching, developing, and holding other accountable
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve goals through influence
  • Ability to create, follow and challenge Standard Work processes daily
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to identify roadblocks in material/information flow and manage exceptions
Required Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum 3 years professional supply chain experience leading teams
  • Supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead towards common goals
  • Experience working with and interpreting orders and inventory/ERP systems
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
Preferred:
  • Bachelors degree in business, supply chain, logistics, or engineering
  • Experience using JDE E1
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while working in production areas including but not limited to the use of safety glasses, steel toed/metatarsal guarded shoes, and ear plugs
  • Ability to use hands to manipulate with fingers, handle, or feel
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach within hands and arm’s length, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders or steps in some small spaces as required by work area
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects 25 pounds, and up to 50 pounds in all directions
  • Ability to remain in stationary position or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate between as necessary
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision in order to appropriately inspect products
  • Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold)
  • Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer.
  • Ability to safely drive/operate motorized equipment/PIT
