POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide therapeutic massage and administer body treatments to soft tissues of the human body including muscles, tendons, and ligaments to assist healing and promote relaxation for both member and non-member clients.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

1. Schedule appointments and provide quality therapeutic massage as scheduled by the front desk attendants.

2. A minimum of twelve (12) hours and three (3) days of availability per week is required for each therapist.

3. Assist with the marketing of the massage therapy services.

4. Actively promote massage therapy internally within the fitness center and externally, as opportunities arise. Each massage therapist is responsible for marketing himself/herself on an individual level. It is necessary to be visible in the fitness center in order to meet members and potential clients.

5. Stock massage rooms with linens and leave the table ready for the next client on a daily basis.

6. Attend mandatory monthly meetings for the massage therapy department.

7. Participate in staff meetings, support branch and Y fundraising initiatives and attend professional training as appropriate.

8. Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA’s mission and goals.

9. Act as a role model and incorporate character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the daily operation of the spa services department.

10. Assume other duties deemed necessary by supervisor.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one (1) year experience preferred. High school diploma or GED equivalency required. Must be a graduate from an accredited school of therapeutic massage. Tennessee licensure is required, and NEC certification is preferred. Acquire CPR certification within sixty (60) days of hire. Enthusiastic team player and healthy role model with a solid understanding of the YMCA Mission, Membership & Wellness programs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outdoor weather. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Must be able to perform within this environment.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequently required to talk or hear. Required to stand, walk, sit and use hands and fingers. Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to stand for a minimum of sixty (60) minutes with minimal walking. Must be able to lift amounts up to twenty (20) lbs.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of the organization.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, COURSES:

New Employee Orientation; required to start work, provided by the Y.

Massage Therapy Certification for accredited school of therapeutic massage.

CRP Certification within 60 days of hire.

Continuing Education Courses as required.

Additional training, licenses, and courses may be required throughout employment.
