MARKETING & COMMUNICATION ASSOCIATE
JOB DESCRIPTION


SCOPE OF WORK

The Marketing & Communication Associate is a full-time, in-person, nonexempt position that
reports to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), at The LGBTQ Center Long Beach (The Center).

The person in this role is responsible for all aspects of branding through the planning and
coordination of fundraising events, promotion of services, and communication projects. This
position will work in coordination with other projects assigned by the COO. This individual must
have excellent verbal and written communication, keen attention to details, and exceptional time
management skills. Additionally, this person must be able to work in an office environment with
little or no supervision.


I: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Administrative

1. Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times. A single violation of responsibility
will result in immediate termination of employment.

2. Participate in regular team/department, interdisciplinary and staff meetings.

3. Support communication efforts of the entire organization (programs/services, annual
fund activities, fundraising campaigns, special initiatives, etc.).

4. Help produce and coordinate the organization’s marketing and public relations
materials.

5. Develop content for the organization’s website, promotional materials, and
promotional pieces, including client success stories.

6. Other duties as assigned.

B. Special Events Coordination

1. Develop sponsorship/trade/business arrangements and relationships to support The
Center’s fundraising events.

2. Planning, implementation, and follow-up for special events.

3. Develop and maintain event software and databases.

4. Manage all aspects of volunteer committees and volunteer coordination, including
but not limited to staffing, recruitment, supervision, training, and acknowledgment.

5. Coordinate event logistics, and publicity, including public relations, advertising, and
collateral material design, production, and distribution.

6. Responsible for the development and fulfillment of the events budgets.

7. Responsible for solicitation of in-kind donations for each event.

8. Cultivate and expand sponsorship development and fulfillment.

9. Cultivate and implement with the COO a business-based donor development
program.

10. Coordinate logistics of events.

11. Send thank you notes to all donors in a timely manner.

12. Write, submit, and follow up to ensure placement on media releases and stories to
establish contacts with local and regional media outlets.

13. As needed, actively participate and staff committees.

14. As needed, assist the Executive Director and COO in other fundraising activities or
grants.

15. Other duties as assigned.

C. Communication

1. Work with others at The Center to develop marketing and communication strategies
to be delivered in multiple platforms/mediums.

2. Maintain and active/relevant social media presence.

3. Assist with website content development to yield, inform, and engage the public.

4. Accurately record and track all public testimonies by Center supporters (Board, staff,
community members) for posting on the website.

5. Draft engaging, dynamic, and actionable content for the Center’s newsletter.

6. Keep abreast of comparable organizations’ newsletters to ensure that The Center’s
posts, content, and stories are consistently staying up-to-date and relevant.

7. Ensure high-quality reporting data through seamless audience segmentation and
Salesforce integration.

D. Professionalism

1. Support and carry out the mission and vision of The Center.

2. Develop and maintain close relationships with various constituencies within the
community.

3. Be involved with the community at large and appropriate professional organizations.

4. Follow Center policies and procedures.

5. Develop professional and personal growth through opportunities and involvement.


II: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three (3) years of progressive professional experience in event, sponsorship,
marketing, public relations, website, and business development/relationship programs
required.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.,
  • Can pass FBI background check.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a driving record
that will support The Center’s liability insurance provider.


III: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four-year degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
o A two-year degree with a minimum of five years of related work experience, preferably

with a nonprofit organization, may substitute the four-year degree requirement.

V: COMPENSATION

  • The hourly rate for this position is $23.00.
  • Other benefits include (health and dental coverage, paid vacation, paid sick time, and
holidays)
  • Optional benefits include (critical life/illness and legal insurance)
