SUMMARY

The primary objective of the Manufacturing Engineering Team is to continuously improve manufacturing processes by removing obstacles to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity. The Manufacturing Engineer I provides engineering support to production lines in the form of process design, tooling selection, production optimization and troubleshooting. This individual will also coordinate the delivery, installation, and commissioning of new equipment while adhering to lean manufacturing principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement process controls that ensure customer specifications are consistently realized.
  • Establish and improve appropriate documentation for processes and equipment (Work Instructions, Standard Work, Setup Sheets, Drawings, etc.)
  • Work with Design Engineering to support introduction of new products, including cost estimates, tooling design, prototyping, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activity.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to drive continuous improvements related to quality and productivity. Identify and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Lead problem solving efforts related to product, process, and equipment issues by driving to root cause and implementing permanent corrective action.
  • Identify cost saving opportunities related to Labor, Yield, Throughput, etc.
  • Procure capital and manage projects focused on continuous improvement.
  • Determine root cause and create repair plans for discrepant material.
  • Utilize CAD software to create 3D models and proper engineering drawings

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience Requirements


Required Skills and Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering/related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Able to use basic mechanical measurement equipment (ie: calipers, micrometers, indicators).
  • Able to read and interpret drawings and schematics.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working in a Lean Production environment using any of the following tools:
    • Six-sigma
    • Single piece flow
    • Variation reduction
    • Standard work
    • Value stream mapping
    • 5s
  • Able to create and interpret part drawings and schematics, including a basic knowledge of GD&T standards.
  • Experience in automation or machine design (PLCs, LabView, controls).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a small team or to work independently with little to no oversite

Work environment— More than half of the Manufacturing Engineer’s time will be spent on the production floor. The reminder of their time will be spent in an office environment.
